Aerial views reveal the Long Thanh International Airport’s passenger terminal, resembling a lotus flower, taking shape. This terminal is the heart of the Long Thanh Airport project.
Construction began in 2023 with a total investment of 35 trillion VND. The terminal’s construction is expected to be completed in 2025, with all facilities ready by August 2026.
The passenger terminal, designed in the shape of a lotus flower, is a striking feature of the project. It is the most critical component of Phase 1 of Long Thanh Airport, covering an area of 376,000 square meters.
According to the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), all project components are currently under simultaneous construction across the entire site.
Contractors have deployed hundreds of work points, mobilizing nearly 14,000 experts, engineers, workers, and over 3,000 construction equipment units. This effort accelerates progress by 3 to 6 months compared to the signed contract, ensuring the project’s substantial completion by December 19, 2025, and commercial operation by mid-2026, as directed by the Prime Minister.
Interior finishing, equipment installation, system integration, static testing, single-unit trial runs, no-load integrated testing, and load testing of imported aviation equipment are underway. These processes are expected to take approximately 6 months, shortened by 3 to 6 months compared to the contract schedule.
Components such as escalators, elevators, staircases, and passenger pathways are being urgently installed by contractors.
Luggage screening machines are being assembled inside the terminal. The security check area features 12 automated facial recognition lanes, along with advanced screening and explosive detection systems, reducing inspection times. Conveyor systems are being installed between terminal floors.
Inside the terminal, simultaneous work is underway on ceiling installation, flooring, functional rooms, and conveyor systems. Exterior glass installation is approximately 80% complete. According to contractors, the terminal’s glass surface area totals around 70,000 square meters.
Teams are working diligently to install glass panels, preparing for the operation of jet bridges. The design includes 32 jet bridges, with 40 parking positions for Code C, E, and F aircraft.
Runway 1 is now complete and ready to receive the first flight at Long Thanh Airport, scheduled for December 19.

Long Thanh International Airport to Operate in Two Phases
Long Thành International Airport is set to commence operations in two distinct phases. The initial phase, slated for December 2025, will focus on technical flights to thoroughly test and evaluate the entire infrastructure before full-scale operations begin. The subsequent phase, starting in June 2026, will mark the official launch of commercial flights at Long Thành, ushering in a new era of air travel connectivity.
