According to Creative Trend, citing sources from several Japanese dealerships, the final production date for the gasoline-powered Mazda CX-5 has been confirmed.

In the documents provided to dealerships, Mazda officially announced the cessation of CX-5 production, specifying the end date for the assembly line. The gasoline-powered Mazda CX-5 will cease production in March 2026. The information exclusively mentions the gasoline engine, with no reference to discontinuing the diesel variant. This suggests that Mazda is likely to continue producing the diesel version beyond 2026.

Similar to Vietnam, the Mazda CX-5 in Japan has not transitioned to a new generation, despite its global debut in July 2025. The launch of the next generation may still be distant. Mazda recently introduced the CX-5 XD Drive Edition, based on the older KF platform, on October 9, 2025.

However, Mazda has plans to unveil the next-generation CX-5. According to dealership documents, the new model will feature a single engine option: a 2.5L gasoline engine paired with the “M Hybrid” mild-hybrid system. This combination aims to enhance real-world fuel efficiency and deliver a smoother driving experience. Based on the production halt for the pure gasoline model, it’s anticipated that the new Mazda CX-5 will debut in Japan around April 2026.

The Mazda CX-5 is expected to offer a “full hybrid” variant. This version will utilize the “SKYACTIV-Z” technology, a new-generation engine optimized for combustion efficiency, combined with a proprietary hybrid system featuring an electric motor. However, this variant is not expected to launch until 2027.

Thus, based on current information, it’s likely that in the Japanese market, the Mazda CX-5 will be sold concurrently in both old and new generations. Specifically, the gasoline engine with mild-hybrid technology will be exclusive to the new generation, while the turbocharged diesel variant will continue to use the current design and platform. However, there is no official confirmation yet, so all conclusions remain speculative.

In Vietnam, completely phasing out the gasoline variant could create an unnecessary gap for the Mazda CX-5. Currently, one of the CX-5’s most appealing features is its accessible price point, starting at just 749 million VND. With ongoing promotions, the base model is priced below 700 million VND, competing closely with lower-segment vehicles. Eliminating the pure gasoline option, as seen in the new generation, could raise the CX-5’s price, potentially alienating price-sensitive customers.
