According to the Gia Lai Province’s Traffic and Civil Works Project Management Board, the province plans to approve the technical design and finalize the selection of construction contractors for Component Project 1 of the Quy Nhơn – Pleiku Expressway by December 7, 2025. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for December 19, 2025, in celebration of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Component Project 2 is expected to be approved on December 28, 2025, with construction commencing in March 2026.

The Project Management Board representative stated that the unit, along with the Gia Lai Provincial Project Management Board and local authorities, is implementing land compensation and clearance procedures. The total land area to be reclaimed exceeds 1,000 hectares, affecting over 6,600 households and 17 organizations.

Approximately 611 households require resettlement, and more than 2,000 graves need to be relocated. The province is also preparing investment procedures for 12 resettlement areas to meet the housing needs of the affected residents. The goal is to complete land clearance and resettlement area construction by March 2026.

Plans are underway to relocate affected technical infrastructure. The two project management boards are preparing dossiers for the relocation of medium- and low-voltage power lines and clean water pipelines. Vietnam Electricity will relocate 28 affected 110 kV and 220 kV power lines.

The project requires a substantial volume of materials, including over 16 million cubic meters of fill soil, 2 million cubic meters of sand, and 3.6 million cubic meters of stone. To date, the province has surveyed and proposed the use of 17 soil quarries, 12 sand quarries, and multiple stone quarries to ensure sufficient quantity and quality for construction.

Component Project 1 of the Quy Nhơn – Pleiku Expressway spans 22 km with a total investment of nearly VND 7,000 billion.

On November 22, 2025, the Gia Lai Provincial People’s Committee approved Component Project 1 of the Quy Nhơn – Pleiku Expressway. The project will be implemented from 2025 to 2029, starting at Km39+200 on National Highway 19B (An Nhơn Bắc Ward) and ending west of the Phú Phong Bypass (Bình Phú Commune).

The 22 km route passes through An Nhơn Bắc Ward, An Nhơn Town, and Bình An, Bình Hiệp, and Bình Phú Communes.

The total investment for Component Project 1 is nearly VND 7,000 billion, including VND 4,500 billion for construction, over VND 1,500 billion for compensation and resettlement support, more than VND 560 billion for contingencies, and over VND 165 billion for consulting services.

The route features 28 bridges, including 21 on the expressway and 7 at intersections; 3 interchange junctions; 15 pedestrian underpasses; and 2 overpasses.

Consulting contractors include Thang Long Construction Consultant Joint Stock Company, Transportation Design and Construction Consultant Joint Stock Company No. 4, IDECO Vietnam Joint Stock Company, and Transportation Construction Consultant Joint Stock Company No. 5.

The dossier review units are Transportation Investment and Construction Consultant Joint Stock Company and Road Technical Center 3.

The Quy Nhơn – Pleiku Expressway spans approximately 125 km, with 40 km in former Bình Định Province and 85 km in Gia Lai Province. The four-lane project includes continuous emergency lanes and a roadbed width of 24.7 meters.

The route passes through An Nhơn Town, Tây Sơn District (former Bình Định Province); An Khê Town, and Đắk Pơ, Mang Yang, Đắk Đoa Districts, and Pleiku City (former Gia Lai Province).

The preliminary total investment is VND 43,700 billion, funded by increased revenue and savings from 2024, along with central and local budgets for the 2021-2025 and 2026-2030 periods.

Upon completion, the expressway will reduce travel time between Bình Định and Gia Lai from 3.5–4 hours to approximately 2 hours, while enhancing safety by bypassing the hazardous An Khê and Mang Yang passes.
