November 25, 2025, marked a significant milestone for Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA) as the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam officially granted the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) for international operations, allowing the airline to commence commercial flights to international markets in the Asia-Middle East (MID/ASIA) region.

This achievement is the result of a rigorous evaluation process, confirming that Sun PhuQuoc Airways meets the highest safety standards and is ready to transition from a domestic carrier to an international airline. The expansion of its operational scope not only signifies the airline’s maturity but also opens up opportunities to access rapidly growing tourism markets in the region.

Sun PhuQuoc Airways receives the AOC for international operations, adds new aircraft to its fleet, and establishes agent networks in South Korea and Taiwan (China).

Leveraging its new capabilities, Sun PhuQuoc Airways will launch its first international routes in March 2026. The inaugural routes will be Seoul – Phu Quoc and Taipei – Phu Quoc. Subsequently, the airline will introduce additional routes such as Busan – Phu Quoc in September 2026 and Kaohsiung – Phu Quoc in October 2026. These destinations are major tourism and economic hubs in Northeast Asia, with a strong growth in visitors to Phu Quoc in recent years, providing a solid foundation for the airline’s ambitious network expansion.

To ensure operational efficiency from the outset, Sun PhuQuoc Airways has proactively appointed General Sales Agents (GSAs) in two key markets: South Korea and Taiwan. In South Korea, Pacific Air Agency, one of the most experienced GSA groups, has been selected to oversee sales, distribution, and product development. In Taiwan, the airline has partnered with Hongyi Travel Service Co., Ltd., a pioneering Taiwanese company in bringing tourists to Vietnam since the 1990s, to expand connections with travel agencies and the growing outbound market.

Establishing a robust GSA network ahead of the official launch enables Sun PhuQuoc Airways to proactively build distribution channels, promote its products, and tailor offerings to specific customer segments, gaining a competitive edge in the international market.

Alongside finalizing its international operations and market network, Sun PhuQuoc Airways is accelerating fleet expansion. On November 24, the airline’s fourth aircraft, an Airbus A321NX, entered commercial service, meeting the increased demand during the peak season. Notably, the airline expects to welcome its fifth aircraft in December. This continuous fleet expansion is a critical part of the airline’s strategy to support its domestic frequency growth and prepare for international operations starting in 2026.

The AOC certification, GSA network establishment, and fleet enhancement collectively represent strategic advancements, reinforcing the goal of positioning Phu Quoc as a new regional tourism and aviation hub. Direct international flights from South Korea and Taiwan not only provide access to major tourist markets but also enhance the island’s tourism ecosystem, offering seamless travel, accommodation, entertainment, and culinary experiences.

Particularly, Sun PhuQuoc Airways’ entry into international operations coincides with Phu Quoc’s selection as the host of APEC 2027 and the ongoing development of infrastructure for the event. This further strengthens the island’s appeal, boosts its competitiveness, and attracts high-quality tourists to Vietnam and Phu Quoc.
