Visa, a global leader in digital payment technology, in collaboration with Hanoi Metro Company (Hanoi Metro), has announced the implementation of its “tap-to-ride” solution on Metro Line 2A (Cat Linh – Ha Dong). This follows the successful deployment on Metro Line 1 in Ho Chi Minh City (Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien). The launch event was attended by representatives from various ministries, departments, Hanoi city leaders, banks, and businesses, marking a significant milestone in the capital’s digital transformation journey.
Visa is partnering with Hanoi Metro and other stakeholders to upgrade the payment system and introduce biometric authentication across all metro lines operated by Hanoi Metro, in line with the directives of the Hanoi People’s Committee. With support from the Hanoi People’s Committee, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Ministry of Construction, this project aims to provide residents and tourists with a secure, seamless, and borderless payment experience.
With the “tap-to-ride” solution, passengers on Metro Line 2A can now: Tap their Visa cards, mobile devices, or wearable devices directly at ticket gates to travel without cash or paper tickets. Purchase tickets via the Hanoi Metro app and pay using Visa cards. Customers can scan the QR code for single-trip, daily, weekly, or monthly tickets displayed on the Hanoi Metro app at the gates for secure and convenient travel.
Transactions are processed through Cybersource, a leading global payment gateway, particularly in transportation and public services. This platform ensures security, flexibility, and scalability, supporting international cards and multiple payment methods.
“Through our strategic partnership with Hanoi Metro, Visa is proud to bring advanced payment technology closer to the people of Hanoi. The ‘tap-to-ride’ solution transforms daily commutes into effortless, safe, fast, and sustainable journeys. This initiative reflects Visa’s long-term commitment to supporting Vietnam’s digital transformation and building smarter, greener cities,” said Mrs. Dang Tuyet Dung, Visa Country Manager for Vietnam and Laos.
By introducing open payments on Hanoi Metro Line 2A, Visa continues to strengthen its “One Tap, Everywhere. Ride Metro – Tap Visa” initiative, maximizing benefits for residents, businesses, and tourists in Vietnam.
