On December 15th, the People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province approved the investment policy for the Phan Thiet Airport project, specifically the civil aviation component located in Mui Ne Ward. The project will be implemented through a public tender to select the investor.
This project aims to meet the growing demand for air transportation, drive socio-economic development, and ensure national defense and security requirements in the region.
The airport is designed to accommodate 4E-class civil aircraft, with a projected capacity of 2 million passengers annually by 2030. It will serve domestic routes and non-scheduled international flights as needed.
Phan Thiet Airport is planned to operate 4E-class civil aircraft.
The project will utilize approximately 75 hectares of land, with a total investment of nearly VND 3.8 trillion, excluding compensation and resettlement costs. The operational period is set at 50 years from the date of approval as per legal regulations.
Notably, the investment approval includes a strict condition: If the investor fails to complete the project within 24 months after the operational target deadline, and does not qualify for an extension, the project will be terminated.
The People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province has tasked relevant departments and localities with guiding and supporting the investor to finalize legal procedures, ensuring timely and compliant project implementation. This approval marks a crucial step toward publicly tendering the project to select an investor in accordance with the Investment Law.
In late November, the Office of the People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province sought opinions from committee members and the Provincial Party Committee regarding the investment policy. In mid-July, a company expressed interest and proposed investing in the airport’s civil component.
Construction of Phan Thiet Airport began in January 2015, comprising both military and civil components. The military component, constructed by the Air Defense – Air Force, is nearly complete and operational.
