Can Tho – Hau Giang Expressway Opens to Traffic from December 22nd Morning

Anticipated to open at 9 a.m. on December 22, the main section of the Can Tho - Hau Giang Expressway will officially welcome public traffic. Vehicles will be permitted to travel from IC2 interchange (Cai Cui Port) to IC5 interchange (former Vi Thuy - Hau Giang).

The My Thuan Project Management Board (under the Ministry of Construction) – the investor, announced the completion of the main route of the Can Tho – Hau Giang Expressway (part of the Eastern North-South Expressway) on December 19th. Initially, the investor planned to open this expressway segment for traffic from the morning of December 20th.

However, according to the leadership of the My Thuan Project Management Board, additional time was required for road cleaning, relocation of machinery and equipment from the construction site, and safety inspections. As a result, the opening of the Can Tho – Hau Giang Expressway was postponed to 9 AM on December 22nd.

The Can Tho – Ca Mau Expressway, comprising the Can Tho – Hau Giang and Hau Giang – Ca Mau sections, opened for technical traffic on December 19th.

From 9 AM on December 22nd, vehicles traveling from Can Tho to Hau Giang will follow this route: From National Highway 91B towards Cai Cui Port (Cai Rang District, Can Tho); upon reaching the Cai Cui Port roundabout, vehicles will turn into the ramp leading to IC2 interchange and enter the expressway. Exit the expressway at IC5 interchange (Vi Thuy Commune, Can Tho City) to connect to National Highway 61B.

In the opposite direction, vehicles from National Highway 61B will enter the expressway via the IC5 interchange ramp. Exit the expressway at IC2 interchange to connect to National Highway 91B.

Initially, only cars will be permitted on this expressway segment, with a maximum speed limit of 80 km/h and a minimum of 60 km/h. The speed limit at interchange ramps is set at a maximum of 40 km/h.

The Can Tho – Ca Mau Expressway spans over 110 km, part of the second phase of the Eastern North-South Expressway, running through Can Tho, Kien Giang, and Ca Mau. The total investment exceeds 27.5 trillion VND from the state budget. This includes the Can Tho – Hau Giang section, over 37.6 km long, and the Hau Giang – Ca Mau section, over 73 km long.
