Over the past period, National Highway 14B within Da Nang City has severely deteriorated, causing significant concern for commuters.
Observations reveal that the section of National Highway 14B from the Tuy Loan intersection to the border of Dai Loc commune is riddled with potholes and severely damaged road surfaces, posing a significant risk to traffic safety.
“During the dry season, dust fills the air, while the rainy season leaves the road muddy and waterlogged, making it extremely hazardous for motorcyclists. Two years ago, a road upgrade project began, and locals were hopeful. However, the construction has been slow, leaving us unsure of when it will be completed,” lamented Mr. N.H.S., a local resident.
According to reports, the upgrade project for National Highway 14B spans over 7.5 km, covering three communes: Ba Na, Hoa Vang, and Hoa Tien in Da Nang City. The total investment exceeds 788 billion VND, with over 430 billion VND from the central budget and more than 357 billion VND from the city’s budget.
The project commenced in late 2023, with an expected completion date of late 2025 or early 2026. However, during a recent press conference, the Da Nang Department of Construction announced that the project is behind schedule, making completion by year-end impossible.
The Department of Construction cited three main reasons for the delay. Land clearance has been particularly challenging due to the dense population along the 7.5 km stretch, requiring the processing of 1,082 compensation files.
To date, 75 files remain unresolved. The city and local authorities have agreed to finalize land clearance this year to facilitate construction. Additionally, the Department of Construction noted that the contractor’s limited capacity has contributed to the project’s delays.
Regarding project funding, the Department of Construction confirmed that construction costs remain unchanged, but land clearance expenses have increased due to updated compensation policies. The city has reported these adjustments to the Ministry of Construction, which has given preliminary approval. The Department of Finance has also advised the City Council to allocate additional funds for compensation within the project budget.
