On December 24th, in Hai Phong, the Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC) and Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Company (NASICO) held the launching ceremony for a 65,000 DWT bulk carrier, design code VB66-02, named Truong Minh Dream 02.

This vessel, built for Dong Bac Shipbuilding Industry Joint Stock Company, boasts a deadweight tonnage of 65,000 DWT (equivalent to 65,000 tons), a length of 199.99 meters, a maximum width of 32.26 meters, and a design draft of 11.3 meters.

This marks the largest vessel ever constructed entirely by Vietnamese engineers and workers.

The ship was designed by a joint venture between Vietnam Shipbuilding Engineering Company (VISEC) and BLUETECH (Finland), and its construction was overseen and classified by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (NK) of Japan and Vietnam Register (VR).

Mr. Tran Manh Ha, General Director of SBIC, emphasized that the Truong Minh Dream 02 project was a large-scale endeavor with stringent technical requirements, facing significant pressure in terms of timeline, quality, and construction conditions.

Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Company (NASICO) is a wholly state-owned limited liability company, established in 2007 through the restructuring and conversion of Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Industry Company. SBIC holds 100% of its charter capital.

Founded in January 1966 as the Sea Boatyard, the company underwent several name changes: Z21 Workshop (11/1966), Le Chan Factory (6/1977), Le Chan Enterprise under Pha Rung Shipyard (4/1983), Le Chan Ship Repair Factory (11/1988), Nam Trieu Ship Repair Factory (11/1989), Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Industry Company (11/2000), and finally, Nam Trieu Shipbuilding Company (4/2007).

NASICO specializes in shipbuilding and floating structures, real estate, land use rights trading, vessel repair and maintenance (excluding automobiles, motorcycles, and other motor vehicles), and machinery and equipment repair.

The company is headquartered at Organization 4, Nam Trieu Ward, Hai Phong City, with Mr. Pham Quang Tuyen as its legal representative.

SBIC, a state-owned enterprise, operates in shipbuilding, ship repair, maritime transportation, and supporting industries.

The Ministry of Construction is responsible for implementing the bankruptcy proceedings for SBIC and its seven subsidiaries, while recovering capital, assets, and property rights from Song Cam Shipbuilding Joint Stock Company, the seven subsidiaries, and related enterprises.

SBIC leadership reported that as of early October 2025, the corporation had collaborated with people’s courts in various provinces and cities to initiate bankruptcy proceedings for 28 companies, open bankruptcy procedures for 20 companies, and hold creditor meetings for 5 companies.
