Although the iPhone 17 series was launched less than six months ago, early leaks about the upcoming iPhone 18, expected to debut this fall, have already begun capturing the tech world’s attention. Notably, the iPhone 18 Pro models are rumored to feature an entirely new design, unlike anything seen in previous iPhone generations.
According to Digital Chat Station, a reputable leaker on Weibo, Apple is experimenting with significant display upgrades, particularly for its premium models. Specifically, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to sport 6.27-inch and 6.86-inch screens, respectively, both equipped with advanced OLED technology and high refresh rates.

The most significant innovation lies in Apple potentially integrating Face ID under the display for the first time. If confirmed, the TrueDepth sensor array and 3D dot projector would be seamlessly embedded behind the screen, eliminating the need for the Dynamic Island notch. The front camera is likely to be repositioned to the top-left corner, adopting a punch-hole design reminiscent of Android devices but with Apple’s signature aesthetic.
This shift would mark the end of the Dynamic Island, a hallmark of recent iPhone designs. However, Apple is expected to retain its interactive notification and status indicator functionalities through software-based solutions.
Meanwhile, the non-Pro iPhone 18 variants are rumored to retain designs similar to their predecessors. The standard iPhone 18 is anticipated to feature a 6.27–6.3-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, ProMotion support, and Dynamic Island integration. The iPhone Air 2 may continue using a 6.55-inch 120Hz OLED screen, mirroring the original Air model.
In addition to the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, Apple is reportedly preparing to launch its first foldable iPhone (iPhone Fold) in September. Interestingly, the standard iPhone 18 release might be delayed until spring 2027, alongside a new variant named the iPhone 18e.
If these rumors hold true, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max could represent a pivotal moment in Apple’s design evolution, breaking years of incremental changes with a bold new direction.
