Upcoming New Car Models for the Vietnamese Market

Several new car models have recently been imported to Vietnam and completed the inspection procedures since the end of 2023, including the Volkswagen Teramont X and Suzuki Jimny. They are expected to be officially launched for sale in 2024.

Volkswagen Teramont X

The first Volkswagen Teramont X 2024 has arrived in Vietnam and is now available for pre-order at the dealership. The car is imported from China with one version, and the expected selling price is VND 2.168 billion, according to a sales consultant.

Unlike the traditional Teramont, the Teramont X is a sportier version with a coupe-style rear window and only 5 seats. The car is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0L TSI engine, with a power output of 220 horsepower, a maximum torque of 350 Nm, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and a 4-wheel drive system.

Suzuki Jimny

Since late 2023, many Suzuki dealerships have been displaying and accepting pre-orders for the new Jimny model. According to sales consultants, the car is expected to be delivered from April this year.

The Suzuki Jimny 2024 sold in Vietnam is a 3-door, 4-seater version imported directly from Japan. The expected prices are VND 789 million for single-color versions and VND 799 million for two-tone versions.

The car stands out with its classic design and good off-road capabilities. The Suzuki Jimny belongs to the Mini SUV segment and is equipped with a naturally aspirated 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine, with a maximum power output of 103 horsepower and a torque of 138 Nm. It comes with an automatic transmission and a 2-wheel drive system.

Omoda C5

The Chery Omoda C5 arrived in Vietnam at the end of January but the official launch date has not been announced. The car has a futuristic design that appeals to young customers.

The B-segment SUV is sold in Vietnam in 2 versions: Deluxe and Luxury. The car is equipped with a turbocharged 1.5L engine, with a maximum power output of 154 horsepower, a maximum torque of 230 Nm, and a simulated 9-speed CVT transmission.

The Omoda C5’s highlight is the ADAS technology package with many safety features, along with a 5-star safety certification from E-NCAP and A-NCAP.

The official selling price of the Omoda C5 has not been announced. However, according to Chery Vietnam, the car will have a price similar to the Kia Seltos (around VND 650-770 million).

Omoda S5

The Chery Omoda S5 was previously displayed in Vietnam in October 2023 together with the C5 model, but it has not been officially launched. The car belongs to the C-segment sedan category, similar in size to the Mazda 3, Kia K3, Honda Civic, Toyota Altis, etc.

The Chery Omoda S5 features a modern and masculine design with clean lines and sharp angles. The car has 2 engine options. First, the standard version comes with a naturally aspirated 1.5L petrol engine, producing a power output of 113 horsepower and a torque of 138 Nm.

In the premium version, the Omoda S5 uses a turbocharged 1.5L petrol engine, producing a maximum power output of 147 horsepower and a maximum torque of 210 Nm. Both versions come with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The expected price is from VND 600 million.

Jaecoo 7

The Jaecoo 7 is the last car in a trio of Chinese cars previously displayed in Vietnam alongside the Omoda S5 and C5. The Jaecoo 7 belongs to the C-segment crossover category. The version sold in Vietnam is expected to be imported from Indonesia and then assembled domestically and sold together with the Omoda 5 in showrooms.

The Jaecoo 7 has been praised by international newspapers for its design resembling Range Rover models. There is not much official information about this car yet, except that the Chinese version is equipped with a 1.6L turbocharged petrol engine with a hybrid option.

According to the distributor of Omoda brand cars in Vietnam, the Omoda 5, Omoda S5, and Jaecoo 7 will be available for sale in August 2024. The first complete batch will include 10 cars, with 3 of each model and the remaining car being the Omoda S5 GT sports sedan model.

Haima 8S

Although the information about the Haima 8S C-segment crossover was announced since late 2023, it is expected to be officially launched in the early second quarter of 2024. The car has three versions that share a 1.6L engine, with a power output of 143 horsepower and a maximum torque of 293 Nm, combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

However, advanced safety features such as lane change assist, adaptive cruise control, emergency braking assistance, rear parking sensors… along with a 360-degree camera are only available on the highest trim level. The expected selling price of the Haima 8S will range from VND 600-700 million.
