2023 is considered a successful year for Son Hai Group. Accordingly, the group has won many large contracts and achieved revenue milestones of nearly 4,000 billion VND. Most recently, on January 5, 2024, Son Hai Group sent a letter to the Project Management Board 7, Ministry of Transport, requesting an appendix to the contract to extend the warranty period of the construction section from 2 years to 10 years for the high-speed construction package in section XL02 from Van Phong to Nha Trang (in the North-South expressway phase 2 project) undertaken by this company.
It can be seen that Son Hai Group’s continuous commitment to a 10-year warranty for road sections reflects the dedicated and serious working attitude of this business in the construction industry.
Although 10 years is not too long considering the lifespan of a road, the warranty commitment and verification by the people in a context where no construction company has set such a time frame for road construction, it is truly valuable for Son Hai Group’s efforts.

The success of Son Hai Group is closely linked to the important role of Mr. Nguyen Viet Hai, the chairman of the group. According to information from the Quang Binh provincial portal, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hai (born in 1966), was born and raised in Sen village, Hoa Trach commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province. After graduating from the University of Economics, majoring in Business Administration, Mr. Hai worked in the Logistics Department, provincial police of Quang Binh.
In 1996, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hai returned according to the 176 regime to establish a business company under the Enterprise Law. Before establishing Son Hai Construction Company Limited in 1998, Mr. Hai had been doing business for 2 years as an individual business under the name Bac Ly – Dong Hoi, Quang Binh. Although Son Hai Group is mentioned a lot in the media, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hai is quite low-profile, rarely appearing in the press to talk about the achievements of his own business, and even less about himself.
Currently, in addition to the business sector, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hai is also actively involved in political and social activities. Specifically, in May 2021, Mr. Hai was elected as a representative of the Quang Binh Provincial People’s Council for the 2021-2026 term.

In the year-end review in 2023, the chairman of Son Hai Group revealed that the average income of the group’s workers has increased compared to 2022, reaching 24 million VND/person/month. Among them, the lowest-income person in Son Hai Group is a crane operator with an income of more than 270 million VND/year.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Hai also revealed that in addition to the on-time payment, Son Hai Group also set aside nearly 60 billion VND in bonuses for officials and employees in 2023.
At the year-end review, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hai expressed that the happiness of a business person is not having tax debts, wage debts, insurance debts, and overdue debts to banks.
Son Hai is one of the major groups of Quang Binh province. The group operates in the construction sector with its main businesses being construction of various types of buildings, railway construction, road construction, land filling and real estate business. The name of Son Hai Group started to draw nationwide attention when it participated in the project of expanding national highway 1A, starting from 2014. At that time, contractors usually only demanded a warranty period of 2 years, but Son Hai Group declared a 5-year warranty for two contracts passing through Quang Binh province.

At the beginning of 2015, Son Hai Group was once again mentioned as the first contractor to reach the destination on the Ho Chi Minh trail passing through the Central Highlands, nearly 1 year ahead of the plan. This is something very rare for many infrastructure contractors in Vietnam.
In 2022, this group continued to make waves when sending a letter to the Ministry of Transport to request a 10-year warranty commitment for the construction contracts of Son Hai. On May 19, 2023, Son Hai Group once again achieved a remarkable feat in the transportation construction industry by completing the San Slope Tunnel project three months ahead of schedule. The San Slope Tunnel project has a total length of 1.5 km, with an investment capital of over 1,200 billion VND. To complete the tunnel construction ahead of schedule, Son Hai, the contractor, mobilized over 500 equipment and 1,500 workers, and worked around the clock with 3 shifts.
