Providing Opportunities for Borrowers Facing Heavy Interest Rates in Thach Thanh, Thanh Hoa

From late 2019 until her arrest, Bui Thi Huong in Thanh Hoa had been providing loans with exorbitant interest rates, preying on the poor residents in the area and profiting over 600 million VND illegally.

Recently, Thach Thanh District Police, Thanh Hoa province, has investigated, clarified and arrested Bui Thi Huong, born in 1986 in Thanh My commune, Thach Thanh district, for the act of high-interest lending in civil transactions.

According to the Thanh Hoa provincial police, through the investigation, the Thach Thanh District Police found that in December 2019, Ms. B.T.T in Thanh My commune borrowed VND 50 million from Bui Thi Huong with an interest rate of VND 3,000 per million per day. By October 2023, Huong profited from lending money to Ms. T at a high interest rate of over VND 170 million.

Expanding the case investigation, the Thach Thanh District Police also found that from the end of 2019 until being arrested, Bui Thi Huong lent money to many poor people in Thanh My commune with an “exorbitant” interest rate, causing them to profit over VND 600 million.

During the search of the residence of the suspect Bui Thi Huong, the police force seized many purchase contracts, driver’s licenses, identity cards, and documents, books recording customer information related to high-interest lending.

Currently, the case is being further investigated and clarified by the Thach Thanh District Police.
