Over 2,200 businesses owe nearly 1,000 billion VND in taxes exposed in Hanoi

The Tax Department has announced its intention to enhance the dissemination of tax policies and laws to taxpayers, as well as implement enforcement measures to improve compliance and voluntary tax payment, and prevent tax debt.

The Hanoi Tax Department just released information on 2,238 taxpayers who still owe taxes and other fees to the state budget as of December 31, 2023, totaling over VND 993 billion.

The tax agency stated that the publication of a list of tax debt businesses complied with the provisions of the Tax Management Law No. 38/2019/QH14 and Decree 126/2020/ND-CP dated October 19, 2020, of the Government.

According to the public list of the Hanoi Tax Department, there are several large debtors, including HFC Vietnam Investment and Trading Corporation with a debt of over VND 18 billion; C99 Capital Management and Assets Exploitation Joint Stock Company with a debt of over VND 7.4 billion; Thanh Nam Group Joint Stock Company with a debt of VND 14.3 billion;

Tang Thanh Cong International Company Limited with a debt of nearly VND 13.2 billion; Dai Long Petroleum Trading Joint Stock Company with a debt of VND 5.9 billion; Viet Trung Investment and Trading Limited Liabilities Company with a debt of over VND 5.5 billion; Dong Xuan Investment Group Joint Stock Company with a debt of over VND 1.6 billion; ATBANK MTV Limited Liability Company with a debt of nearly VND 2.4 billion…

Publicize tax debt cases on tax agency’s newspapers, radio and websites

Regarding the tax debt enforcement work, at a conference held at the end of January 2024 by the General Department of Taxation, Deputy Director-General of the General Department of Taxation Dang Ngoc Minh stated that in 2024, the economy is predicted to face many difficulties due to the fluctuations in the world’s political and economic situation, which will have significant impacts on domestic economy. As a result, some businesses may leave the market, lose payment ability, leading to more difficulties in the tax debt enforcement work.

Therefore, Deputy Director-General Dang Ngoc Minh suggested that the Debt Management and Tax Debt Enforcement Bureau strictly apply all measures of tax debt enforcement against taxpayers who fall under the cases requiring these measures.

In addition, it is necessary to intensify the dissemination of legal policy documents to taxpayers as well as enforcement measures to improve the compliance and self-discipline in tax payment and prevention of tax debts. At the same time, the tax agency should publicize information about tangled, stubborn tax debtors on newspapers, radio, and websites.

The General Department of Taxation also required units within the tax industry to continue close coordination with related agencies in the recovery of overdue taxes, especially handling the recovery of overdue debts related to land, mineral exploitation rights fees…
