Although it is not yet the day of Thanh Tai (the 10th day of the Lunar New Year), from February 15th (the 6th day of Tet) to today, February 17th (the 8th day of Tet), many Hanoi residents have lined up to buy gold for good luck throughout the year.
On the famous “gold streets” of Tran Nhan Tong (Hai Ba Trung District) and Cau Giay (Cau Giay District) on the morning of February 17th, many gold stores were packed with customers, and people had to wait in line for hours to buy gold.
According to the manager of a gold store on Cau Giay Street, the number of customers increased significantly right after the Tet holiday. Furthermore, with the approaching day of Thanh Tai on the 10th day of the first lunar month, the number of customers continued to rise. This reporter observed that the most popular product among customers is the 99.99% pure gold ring.
At times, for a round and smooth gold ring weighing 1 chi, each customer is only allowed to buy one product. According to a salesperson, as the 1 chi gold ring is popular among customers, at the beginning of the year, each customer is only sold one product for good luck and to receive the product immediately.
For customers who want to buy more, they will be scheduled to pick up their purchases after the day of Thanh Tai. In addition, gold figurines in the shape of dragons are also popular choices among the people in the 2024 Year of the Dragon.
Mr. Tran Huu Dang, General Director of ASEAN Silver Jewelry and Precious Stones Joint Stock Company (Hanoi), confirmed that Hanoi residents buy a lot of gold at the beginning of the year. They focus on buying 1 chi gold rings and other gold products related to the day of Thanh Tai, but few people buy SJC pieces of gold.
A representative of Bao Tin Minh Chau Gold Company (Hanoi) also revealed that on the morning of February 17th, hundreds of customers came to buy gold for good luck on the day of Thanh Tai, among which the most purchased item is the round and golden dragon ring.
In Ho Chi Minh City, the purchasing power of residents at Mi Hong Jewelry Company stores (in Ba Chieu Market, Binh Thanh District) has increased, but there are no lines or crowds.
Similarly, at gold shops in Tan Dinh Market (District 1), Go Vap District, and Cau Market (District 12), the number of customers is not excessive.
