Japanese car models discounted by hundreds of million Vietnamese dong after Tet holiday

After Lunar New Year, Japanese car companies have all entered a massive discount promotion cycle, with discounts of up to over 300 million VND to attract customers in the context of declining purchasing power in the Vietnamese market.

“First shots fired” Subaru boldly opened the promotion for the spring holiday season 2024. The offer that the Japanese car manufacturer offers to customers is worth up to 324 million VND, in February 2024 for the SUV model Forester with VIN (manufactured year) 2023 that the company is distributing in Vietnam.

In particular, the Forester iL version is offered a cash discount of 170 million VND; the iL EyeSight version is reduced by 230 million VND in cash and the most notable iS EyeSight version is entitled to a discount of up to 250 million VND and equipped with automatic folding mirrors. In addition, customers who buy the above-mentioned cars will also receive an additional 4 headrests and enjoy a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty policy.

In addition, Subaru Vietnam also gives “lucky money” to customers in the form of a lucky draw at the dealer, for customers who complete the purchase procedures for Forester, WRX, and BRZ cars. The prize structure ranges from 1 tael to 3 taels, 5 taels, and 1 gold bar – converted into cash with a value of up to 74 million VND.

The compatriot Suzuki also proves no less competitive than Subaru, when it launches incentives for customers worth from 45 million to 140 million VND depending on the version and different car models. Specifically, when buying the Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid in February 2024, users will have 100% vehicle registration tax deducted directly from the selling price.

At the same time, the AT version of this MPV model will be given an additional fuel coupon worth 10 million VND; while the MT version enjoys a 0% preferential interest rate for the first 6 months. Furthermore, the Suzuki XL7 also enjoys a 100% vehicle registration tax reduction; comes with an additional 10 million VND fuel coupon, raising the total promotional value to 70 million VND.

Meanwhile, the Suzuki Swift, a picky sedan duo, is entitled to a 100% vehicle registration tax exemption worth 60 million VND; while the Ciaz is reduced by 50% of vehicle registration tax into the retail price, equivalent to 45 million VND, along with a 0% interest rate for the first 6 months.

Mitsubishi, a compatriot brand, is just as generous as Subaru with a 50% vehicle registration tax support program for all the products being sold in the Vietnamese market; except for the XForce crossover model – imported from Indonesia and still not available for delivery to users.

Mitsubishi Xpander Cross

In addition, customers who buy the Xpander MT version will receive an additional reverse camera. Meanwhile, AT and Cross versions of this popular MPV will be offered a 360-degree panoramic camera system worth 20 million VND.

This will definitely be the reason for the Xpander to maintain its sales crown in the segment, as well as across the market; because in the whole year of 2023, this MPV received nearly 20,000 orders – ranking 1st in Vietnam – far surpassing the second-place car with more than 2,000 units.

Not only that, sedan models are as popular as Honda City were discounted by up to 30 million VND along with a vehicle registration tax exemption from 50% – 100% depending on the version; with the highest value of up to nearly 90 million VND.

Honda City

Many other Honda models also receive different incentives, including a 50% vehicle registration tax reduction combined with a 30 million VND cashback deducted directly from the selling price or a 1-year body insurance for HR-V, Civic, Accord, and CR-V models (except e:HEV RS version). Even these incentives do not include other promotional programs from the distributors.

For the case of two popular cars, the City and the CR-V; this is considered a move to clear the inventory, as the promotion applies to VIN 2023 cars. Meanwhile, for names like HR-V, Civic, or Accord; the Japanese aviation brand is also expecting to improve sales for the aforementioned products.

No less generous in terms of prices reduction than Japanese brands, Thaco does not provide any incentives for its brands, including Kia, Mazda, and Peugeot. On the other hand, the joint venture Thành Công has taken certain actions by applying a 50% vehicle registration tax deduction to the selling price of Creta, Elantra, Accent, and Grand i10 models; or customers can choose a 0% preferential interest rate package for 12 months if buying a car on credit. The Hyundai Grand i10 A-segment car will receive an additional 1-year physical damage insurance.

Hyundai Accent

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Evolander owners will receive an additional gift of a 360-degree panoramic camera system.

Even the B-segment car model of the brand, Mitsubishi Attrage, comes with a gift of a shark fin antenna for the CVT and CVT Premium versions; while the MT version will receive an incentive of a reverse camera.

While Honda’s incentive comes from combining resources from the car manufacturer as well as the dealerships; Mitsubishi is supported by the distribution network, many Japanese car models are also proactively reduced in retail prices to attract customers on the occasion of the Lunar New Year.

Toyota Corolla Cross

According to feedback from many sales consultants, the popular SUV model Toyota Corolla Cross is also applied with a 50 million VND discount. In 2023, this is one of the two business spearheads of the “giant” Japanese brand – when it achieved the peak 8th position among the best-selling cars in the market with more than 10,000 cars delivered to customers.

The Corolla Cross is promised to be soon updated by Toyota Vietnam to compete with competitors Tucson and CX-5, because the neighboring Thai market has also just received a facelift upgrade of this Japanese crossover model.

In contrast to the powerful price promotion of Japanese brands; Thaco, the distributor of Kia, Mazda, and Peugeot brands, seems quite indifferent and does not offer any incentive policy for its distributed brands.
