Today, on February 19th (or the 10th day of the lunar calendar), it is the day of the Wealth God. On this day, many people go buy gold to seek good luck and prosperity, hoping to have abundance in the new year. This year, the price of gold is extremely high, which makes many people hesitate about buying gold. Besides, there are still a number of people wondering whether buying gold on the day of the Wealth God truly brings luck and wealth.
Recently, shared on VTC Now, Economic expert Dr. Nguyen Tri Hieu stated that on the day of the Wealth God, the price of gold usually goes up because many people believe that buying gold will be blessed by the Wealth God.
“I must say that buying gold on the day of the Wealth God will incur a very high price. As in previous years, we have seen that after the day of the Wealth God, the price of gold drops rapidly. Those who buy gold on the day of the Wealth God and then sell it may have to incur losses,” Dr. Hieu said.Â
The economic expert also agrees with the viewpoint: “Buying gold on the day of the Wealth God only enriches the gold shop owner“.Â
According to Dr. Hieu, the day of the Wealth God may have been created by gold business people themselves. He believes that people should not buy gold on this day because gold businesspeople and investors are taking advantage of this time to make money by “inflating prices,” using various tricks to appeal to people’s belief, creating people’s desire to be blessed by the Wealth God.Â
Dr. Hieu added that if people buy gold on the Wealth God day just hoping for blessings, they should not. If they want to buy, they should wait for a time about 1-2 weeks after the day of the Wealth God, when the price has dropped, it will be more beneficial. “In my opinion, this year the price of gold in the country and the world are both on an upward trend, so buying gold can be an investment opportunity worth considering,” Dr. Hieu suggested to investors.Â
Although it is still unclear whether buying gold on the day of the Wealth God actually brings good fortune, many people still have the habit of buying gold on this day.Â
Also on VTC Now, Mr. Phan Dung Khanh, an independent gold expert, gave advice that people should not have the mindset of hoarding a lot of gold on this day, but should only buy a little with the belief of luck. People should choose the appropriate type of gold to preserve its value, such as plain round rings or pieces of gold with serial numbers for easy identification of quality and future resale.
It is advisable to buy gold from reputable businesses and obtain a complete invoice to authenticate the transaction.
Origin of the day of the Wealth God
The custom of worshipping the Wealth God originated from China and began to appear in Vietnam around the early 20th century. The tradition of worshipping the Wealth God on the 10th day of the lunar calendar every year has been passed down, and it is believed that there is no Wealth God in the mortal world, only the Wealth God in heaven who manages money and wealth.
One time, the Wealth God went out to have fun and got drunk, so he fell down to the mortal world. When the Wealth God asked for food at a house, that house became wealthy, with prosperous business and expensive sales… On the 10th day of the lunar calendar, the Wealth God flies back to heaven.
To commemorate him, people chose this day as the day of the Wealth God. On the day of the Wealth God, people worship objects and buy gold to pray for wealth, luck, and prosperity throughout the year, especially in families involved in business and trade.
The legend of the day has become ingrained in the belief of many people and has become a spiritual faith. Every year, on the 10th day of the lunar calendar, many families, especially those engaged in business and trade, often go shopping for ritual offerings to worship the Wealth God, praying for a prosperous and successful new year with wealth and smooth sailing.
