In the updated support document today, Apple says the battery on the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max is designed to retain 80% of its original capacity after 1,000 full charge cycles under ideal conditions. This number is higher than the advertised 500 charge cycles for all older iPhone models.

Apple says they conducted tests on iPhone 15 models by charging and discharging the battery 1,000 times under specific conditions, but they did not provide precise details about the procedure. Apple also added that they have continuously improved the iPhone battery components and power management system.

“The battery on previous iPhone 14 models is designed to maintain 80% of its original capacity after 500 full charge cycles under ideal conditions. The battery on iPhone 15 models is designed to maintain 80% of its original capacity after 1,000 full charge cycles under ideal conditions,” Apple’s document wrote.

This shows that the battery on the iPhone 15 may take longer to decrease to 80% maximum capacity compared to previous iPhone models. However, Apple mentioned that they are “researching” the battery life of older iPhone models, so a comparison based on the latest test results is still not known.

In the support document, Apple mentions that the battery life of any iPhone model ultimately depends on usage and regular charging.

To view the battery capacity of the iPhone, open the Settings app and tap on Battery → Battery Health. On updated iPhone 15 models with the latest iOS 17.4 beta, the menu is now simply called Battery Health and displays more information about the battery, such as the time range in which the battery was manufactured and the number of charges.
