Recently, BYD announced that its best-selling hatchback – BYD Dolphin will receive an update on February 23rd, titled Honor Edition.

In the new edition, the BYD Dolphin will come with an additional 60 kWh battery and a range of 520 km on the CLTC test cycle. The powertrain of the Dolphin 2024 remains unchanged with a power output of 70 kW and a maximum torque of 180 Nm. The dimensions also remain the same (length/width/height) at 4125/1770/1570 mm, along with a wheelbase of 2700 mm.

Inside the cabin, BYD has made some changes. The new edition will feature a new type-C charging port and a 50W wireless charging pad. The seats have also been upgraded with additional ventilation for the front seats, as well as the option for rear seat privacy glass.

According to the Chinese site Autohome, the price of the Dolphin 2024 will be lower than the current 2023 edition, which starts at 104,800 RMB (approximately 350 million VND) in China.

In addition to the announcement of the launch date, BYD also revealed its first-ever price battle against internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. By releasing the 2024 update for its PHEV models at a lower price compared to ICE alternatives, the company is trying to persuade traditional ICE car buyers to choose PHEV options. BYD ceased production of ICE vehicles in April 2022.

Furthermore, with the release of the new Dolphin 2024, BYD aims to position its all-electric product line at the forefront of the price battle, as the company expects the electric vehicle market share to increase significantly this year. BYD’s founder, Wang Chuanfu, stated in a New Year’s speech that he expects electric vehicle market share to reach 50% in China by the end of 2024.
