This year, peach and kumquat growers and traders have gone through a turbulent Tet season, with many incurring losses. Even the “luxury” peach segment with prices ranging from a few million to nearly a hundred million dong is no exception.
According to Mr. Le Ham, who specializes in growing Thất Thốn peaches – a valuable ancient type of peach in Nhat Tan, the price of this type of peach in his garden has decreased by 15-20% compared to last year mainly due to the difficult economic situation leading to a decrease in purchasing power. In addition, the weather this year changed suddenly, which is not favorable for the growth of the trees. Moreover, traffic in the Nhat Tan area is frequently congested due to the impact of the An Duong intersection project – Thanh Nien road being constructed on Au Co street, which also causes difficulties for customers coming to buy goods.
“The price of Thất Thốn peach has decreased because more and more people know and play with this type of peach, making the market gradually saturated. Many other regions are also developing strongly in Thất Thốn peach to compete with the Nhat Tan village, such as Da Lat or mountainous provinces in the North,” Mr. Ham added.

According to Mr. Ham, in the future, there will still be a lot of room for the development of the Thất Thốn peach market. This type of peach has a combination of ancient beauty and elegance that no other peach variety can achieve, so it will always attract customers. In addition, Thất Thốn peaches have strong vitality and a long lifespan, so they can be enjoyed for a long time… Therefore, to sell the product, the most important thing is still the quality of the peach trees.
“The overall quality level of Thất Thốn peaches is currently not high, because this is also a difficult type of peach to grow and take care of. Nhat Tan village also only has a few households growing it. But in the future, when the market becomes more saturated, those who grow Thất Thốn peaches have no choice but to continuously improve the quality of the peach trees,” Mr. Ham shared.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Quang Vu said that the price of Thất Thốn peaches in his garden has not changed compared to last year. However, the amount sold is lower, and the input costs (labor, transportation, fertilizer, pesticides, etc.) have increased significantly, so the overall profit has still decreased slightly.
Mr. Tran Tuan Viet, Chairman of the Nhat Tan Peach Growing Village Association, shared that the cost of luxury peaches will not fluctuate much because they already have a familiar customer base of government agencies, businesses, or wealthy families who always buy or rent peaches regularly every year. “This year, the price of peaches in my garden also decreased slightly, but they were all sold out. In fact, I even had to import more trees to meet the demand of customers,” Mr. Viet said.
