On the evening of March 8, the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group officially announced that it has successfully auctioned off the right to use the radio frequency for the 2500 – 2600 MHz band for the next 15 years.

The 2500-2600 MHz band is planned by the Ministry of Information and Communications for the deployment of mobile information systems according to 5G, 4G, and future technologies.

For Viettel, the 2500-2600 MHz band is especially important because it is an effective band for Viettel to deploy both 4G and 5G mobile networks, thereby improving the current quality of 4G services and officially providing 5G services. This is also an optimized band that covers a radius 1.3 times larger than the C band (3500 MHz).

Viettel’s winning auction of the right to use the radio frequency to deploy a 5G mobile network is a necessary condition for Viettel to accompany the world’s development trend in telecommunications technology, continue to develop 4G networks, and transition to 5G technology.

In addition, this is also the roadmap to promote the development of the National Digital Infrastructure, the Digital Service Ecosystem, creating new impetus for economic growth and labor productivity.

Currently, 5G devices researched and manufactured by Viettel are ready to be deployed on the 2500 – 2600 MHz band. Viettel is expected to launch a nationwide 5G network as soon as possible.

Previously, on January 11, 2024, the Prime Minister approved the Information and Communications Infrastructure Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 in Vietnam.

The plan sets a target that by 2025, the minimum average download speed for 5G networks will be 100 Mbps, and by 2030, 5G networks will cover 99% of the population. To realize these goals, 2024 is the ripe time to license the commercialization of 5G bands.

On January 17, the Minister of Information and Communications approved the plan to organize the auction of the right to use the radio frequency for the 2500-2600 MHz and 3700-3900 MHz bands for ground-based mobile information systems according to IMT standards.
