On March 15, Kiên Giang Provincial People’s Committee and the Ministry of Construction organized a conference to announce the Master Plan for the city and the economic border gate area of Hà Tiên by 2040, and promote investment in Hà Tiên City.

According to the plan, in addition to the development on land, the locality is planning to reclaim land from the sea and build artificial islands in an area of over 24,750 hectares located between Tiên Hải Island and the mainland. In particular, the reclaimed land and the construction of artificial islands are expected to cover a total area of over 11,300 hectares.

On the mainland, Hà Tiên aims to develop the urban area along National Highway 80, National Highway N1, Hà Tiên – Rạch Giá – Bạc Liêu expressway, along the Giang Thành River, Vĩnh Tế canal, Hà Tiên – Rạch Giá canal, coastal roads, etc.

To realize the goal of land reclamation and the construction of artificial islands, Hà Tiên will invest in building a sea route in the South and North of Hà Tiên, connecting the specially designated airport and the seaport. This includes interaction and linkage along the Phú Quốc – Rạch Giá – Hà Tiên triangle axis.

Mr. Nguyễn Thanh Nghị, Minister of Construction, emphasized that Hà Tiên has a strategic location, with both land and sea border gates connecting with the Kingdom of Cambodia. This creates an advantage for the locality to directly connect with Southeast Asian countries for trade.

Hà Tiên has been recognized as a grade 3 urban area, one of the most attractive cities in the Mekong Delta region. Based on this, Hà Tiên plans to develop into 8 urban areas, including traditional, tourism, border gate, ecological models, etc. It aims to build seaports, specialized airports serving tourism, connecting with Phú Quốc and neighboring areas.
