Launching the competition to accelerate progress, reaching the deadline on April 30
On March 14, Vietnam Airport Corporation (ACV) held a ceremony to launch a competition to complete the construction and technical operation of the Long Thanh Airport runway, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of South Vietnam and the reunification of the country.
The Long Thanh Airport runway project was started in synchronization with the passenger terminal at the end of August 2023. It has a length of 4,000 meters and a width of 70 meters, capable of accommodating the most advanced aircraft. This is a prerequisite for the operation of Long Thanh Airport, ensuring safe operation.

In the presence of the leaders of the Ministry of Transport, the State Capital Management Committee in Enterprises, ACV and the contractors signed a competition agreement to shorten the construction period of the runway by 3 months compared to the contract schedule and ensure 10 million safe labor hours and construction quality on the site.
At the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tien Viet – Deputy General Director of ACV, Head of the Long Thanh Airport Project Management Board, said: Since the beginning of 2024, the project owner (ACV) has directed the consortium of contractors to mobilize more than 350 equipment units and nearly 1,500 engineers and workers to maximize the favorable dry season weather conditions to implement and vigorously deploy the stages on the construction site.

The construction of the runway is closely following the schedule, basically completing the ground and sand foundation items; the crushed stone layer has been completed over 70%. Currently, the construction of the general concrete layer is being implemented to complete the runway and conduct test flights before April 30, 2025.
To shorten the schedule while ensuring the quality of the runway, ACV has instructed relevant units to research and apply advanced construction technologies to effectively implement measures to ensure labor safety on the construction site.
Make every effort to complete and put the project into operation early
In his speech at the launching ceremony, Mr. Le Anh Tuan – Deputy Minister of Transport – said: Long Thanh Airport is a special national-level important project with great significance for the socio-economic development of the country. To ensure the progress and quality of this very important construction project, ACV needs to continue to regularly check, urge, promptly remove difficulties and encourage and motivate units and workers to carry out “3 shifts, 4 groups” at the construction site to accelerate the project schedule.
Deputy Minister Le Anh Tuan requested the consortium of contractors to thoroughly implement the competition movement, vigorously and regularly direct the review of each job detail, meet the progress requirements and take responsibility before competent authorities.

Earlier, in February, in a report to the Ministry of Transport on the progress of the construction of the Long Thanh International Airport project, Vietnam Airport Corporation (ACV) stated that the construction work closely follows the set schedule, from the design of the construction drawing, procurement plan, construction…
After more than 5 months of starting the passenger terminal, the parallel taxiway… the contractors have mobilized more than 3,200 laborers and nearly 1,300 machinery, equipment for construction. Up to now, the disbursement of public investment of the tender packages has reached over VND 11,300 billion.
Being present at the Long Thanh International Airport project site on the 4th day of the Lunar New Year, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assigned the task that if 2022 and 2023 are the launch years, then 2024 is the acceleration year and 2025 will be the breakthrough year, the first 6 months of 2026 must be completed to put the Long Thanh Airport project into operation.

The Long Thanh Airport project phase 1 is a special national important project, with a very large significance for the socio-economic development of Vietnam. The total investment capital of the project is about VND 336,630 billion (US$ 16 billion), of which 4% is allocated to the first phase.
After completing all the phases, Long Thanh Airport will have a capacity of up to 100 million passengers per year and become the largest airport in Vietnam in the future.
