Amidst the less than encouraging market signals, automobile manufacturers are collectively stepping up promotional efforts to lure customers and thereby directly improve sales. Toyota Vios is one such typical example.

Toyota Vios is being discounted from 21 – 47 million VND, depending on the version.

In mid-April 2024, a survey conducted at several authorized dealers in the Hanoi area revealed that this B-segment sedan is currently enjoying multiple promotional programs simultaneously. First and foremost, Toyota Vietnam has adjusted the vehicle’s listed price by 21 – 47 million VND.

With the authorized dealer discount, the post-promotion sales prices for the Vios 1.5 E-MT, 1.5 E-CVT, and 1.5 G versions are 458, 488, and 545 million VND, respectively. However, dealers in the Hanoi area are offering an additional discount of 10 – 15 million VND for each customer, depending on the version, time of purchase, and remaining inventory.

By quick calculation, the Toyota Vios manual transmission version now costs around 440 million VND. Meanwhile, the 1.5E CVT version is priced around 470 million VND, and the top-of-the-line 1.5G CVT version hovers around 530 million VND – very attractive compared to its segment rivals.

Many dealers in Hanoi are willing to offer an additional 10 – 15 million VND discount for customers buying cars.

However, for vehicles that have already received authorized dealer discounts and price reductions, some free gifts (such as heat-insulating film and floor mats) will not be included upon delivery. According to the dealers, this promotional policy applies to products with a 2024 VIN. The Toyota Vios model with a 2023 VIN is currently out of stock.

In some cases, sales consultants are willing to “sacrifice” their sales commission to offer additional discounts to customers in exchange for achieving personal sales targets. These instances are not common but do occur, helping customers save an additional 2-3 million VND on their vehicle purchases.

Sales consultants may even be willing to offer a few million VND off their own pocket to secure sales.

Thus, at this time, customers can negotiate to achieve very favorable actual prices, starting from around 440 million VND when purchasing a Toyota Vios. This price is close to many models in the A-segment hatchback segment – which are priced between 350 – 450 million VND.

With the combined policy of the manufacturer and the authorized dealer to offer significant discounts on its products, Toyota Vios is gradually regaining momentum in sales growth. According to data compiled by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), 1,757 B-segment sedans were delivered to customers by Toyota in the first quarter, ranking eighth.

In reality, the Toyota Vios now costs just over 400 million VND, comparable to many A-segment models, but does not include free gifts upon purchase.

In January and February, Toyota Vios sold only 653 and 170 units, respectively – less than encouraging results. However, in March, the sedan model achieved sales of 934 units, representing a growth rate of 549% compared to the previous month, ranking sixth in the overall market.

In the upcoming period, this will certainly remain a key product for the number one Japanese brand, alongside the Veloz Cross MPV and the newcomer Yaris Cross – which have also achieved very stable and promising sales figures each month. In May, Toyota Vietnam will also launch two new products, the Hilux pickup truck and the Corolla Cross SUV, which are highly anticipated.
