In 2012, on her way home from work, Ms. Vฤฉnh Vy Phฦฐแปฃng (48 years old, who used to be a worker at Yuki Company, Tan Thuan EPZ, Ho Chi Minh City) unfortunately had a traffic accident. That incident not only caused her a 45% disability, but also required her to have part of her leg amputated. She had to have an artificial leg fitted in order to be able to walk.

After nearly half a year of treatment and rehabilitation, she returned to work at the company but only for 3 months; the company was dissolved due to difficulties, causing all workers to lose their jobs.

As a single mother with unstable housing and having to live in rented accommodation, the burden was very great, so after losing her job, despite her poor health, she still had to run around to find a job but because of her difficulty in walking due to her artificial leg, every company shook their heads.

Having difficulty walking, it was very difficult for Ms. Vฤฉnh Vy Phฦฐแปฃng to find a job

At that time, the only source of income for her family was the work accident allowance (about 700,000 VND/month, now increased to 1 million VND/month), so it was extremely difficult. Therefore, in order to have money to spend, she decided to withdraw her social insurance once after a year of losing her job. โ€œThe amount of money I received was only about 5 million VND, but it helped us cover our living expenses for 2 months,โ€ said Ms. Phuong.

It wasnโ€™t until more than a year later that she found a new job at a leather shoe processing company in District 8, but this job only lasted less than a year, and she lost her job again. She said that since her work accident, her work has not been smooth, and everywhere she has only been able to work for a short time because of difficulties in the company, resulting in her being laid off or transferred to positions that require her to stand all day, which is beyond her health condition, forcing her to quit her job. Thatโ€™s why Ms. Phuong has withdrawn her social insurance 4-5 times. โ€œWith a disabled body, I also really want to have a pension so that I can have less hardship later on, but every time I lose my job, the opportunity to find a new job becomes even more difficult, partly because of my difficulty moving and partly because of my age. At such times, if I donโ€™t withdraw my social insurance once, I donโ€™t know where to get money to spend,โ€ she sighed.

Most recently, in September 2023, Ms. Phuong was hired by a food company in District 8, but after only 3 months, she was laid off again due to a lack of orders. Until now, she is still unemployed, living on her work accident allowance.

Sharing the difficulties with her, recently, at the Opening Program of the Workersโ€™ Month, the Labor Union of District 8 supported her family with a gift worth a total of 600,000 VND
