Announcement of Journalism Prize for Promoting Energy Conservation and Efficiency
On April 22, in Hanoi, the Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development (Ministry of Industry and Trade) collaborated with the Vietnam Journalists Association to organize the Launch Ceremony for the “Journalism Award for Promoting Energy Conservation and Efficiency in 2024”.
The award aims to honor reporters, journalists, and informants nationwide for their contributions to enhancing the effectiveness and expanding the reach of the National Program on Energy Conservation and Efficiency for the period 2019-2030. This will contribute to the gradual realization of Vietnam’s net zero emission target by 2050, as committed at the global climate summit (COP26).
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan said that in 2023, we witnessed localized power supply cuts, which caused difficulties for the economy and people’s lives. In 2024, Vietnam is forecasted to face severe impacts of climate change. This will directly affect electricity supply.
According to the report of the Electricity of Vietnam and the Electricity Regulatory Authority, the electricity supply and system operation in 2024 will generally meet the electricity demand for socio-economic development and people’s needs. However, in the coming period, challenges are expected in ensuring electricity supply, especially in the northern region during the peak hot months (May, June, and July).
The Deputy Minister emphasized that using electricity efficiently and conservatively is necessary and important. Based on the close guidance of the Government and the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has identified prioritizing energy conservation. Energy conservation and efficiency are considered crucial and urgent issues that contribute to ensuring sufficient electricity supply for socio-economic development in the short and long term.
Therefore, following the success in 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Trade expects the Journalism Award for Promoting Energy Conservation and Efficiency in 2024 to continue receiving the attention and participation of journalists, reporters, communications staff of various organizations, and informants nationwide.
“From these articles and information, relevant agencies, especially the Ministry of Industry and Trade, can advise the Government and other competent authorities to issue and adjust policies to further promote energy conservation and efficiency,” emphasized Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan.
Regarding the award rules, Mr. Phan Toan Thang, Chief of Office of the Vietnam Journalists Association, said that journalistic works submitted to the award should accurately and promptly reflect the effective implementation of the Party’s guidelines and policies and the State’s laws on energy conservation and efficiency.
In addition, works should commend agencies, organizations, units, and facilities that use energy conservatively and efficiently through the comprehensive implementation of state management, technical support, scientific and technological research, product development, market transformation, human resource development, and international cooperation. This will help reduce energy consumption, minimize electricity loss, and contribute to achieving the goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, as committed by the Government at COP26.
The award-winning works will also focus on raising public awareness about energy conservation and efficiency; reducing energy intensity in economic sectors and industries; encouraging energy conservation as a regular practice for重点 energy-consuming facilities and key energy-consuming economic sectors; and aiming for green growth and sustainable development.
In 2024, works eligible for the award include news, reports, interviews, panel discussions, commentaries, feature articles, documentaries, investigative reports, and journalistic essays in the categories of Print Media, Radio, Television, and Online Newspapers. New forms of expression are encouraged, such as infographics, longforms, video clips, and podcasts.
Eligible works are those published between October 1, 2023, and September 30, 2024, on mass media outlets licensed by competent state agencies.
The deadline for submission is October 6, 2024 (based on the postmark or the date of email submission). The award ceremony is scheduled for December 2024.
