Ho Chi Minh City Proposes That Dong Nai Build Cat Lai Bridge Investment Plan

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just sent an urgent dispatch to Dong Nai Province People's Committee on the plan for the investment in building a bridge to replace Cat Lai ferry.

According to the HCM City People’s Committee, the city is organizing to establish the HCM City planning project for the 2021 – 2030 period, with a vision to 2050 and a general plan to 2040, with a vision to 2060. Accordingly, to enhance inter-regional transport links, HCM City and Dong Nai Province have agreed to add bridge locations connecting the two localities across the Dong Nai River. These bridges include: Cat Lai Bridge, the bridge connecting Thu Duc City with Tam An commune, Long Thanh district, and the bridge connecting the Southern area of ​​HCM City (Hoang Quoc Viet Street) with Nhon Trach district.

Regarding the Cat Lai bridge construction investment project, Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee proposed the implementation time for phase 2021 – 2025 and is organizing the preparation of a project pre-feasibility study report. Therefore, HCM City People’s Committee requested Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee to develop an investment plan for Cat Lai bridge. Accordingly, the province plans key milestones such as: updating the plan, approving the investment policy, feasibility study report, site clearance, commencement, and coordination contents between the two localities to serve as a basis for unified implementation. HCM City People’s Committee will continue to closely coordinate with Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee during the project investment research process, ensuring synchronization and maximizing investment efficiency. Cat Lai Bridge, replacing the existing Cat Lai ferry, is one of the works that many people are looking forward to. According to statistics from the Thanh Nien xung phong Ferry Management Enterprise of Ho Chi Minh City, the traffic volume through Cat Lai ferry is about 50,000 passengers/day on average, and during peak periods on holidays and Tet, it can reach 100,000 passengers /day. On average, each passenger spends about 20 minutes waiting for the ferry and crossing the river, which is about 1km long.
