Apple has many camera upgrades for the iPhone 16 series

Upgraded Ultra-Wide Camera on the iPhone 16 Pro & iPhone 16 Pro Max

A notable highlight of the new iPhone 16 Pro & iPhone 16 Pro Max duo is the upgraded ultra-wide camera lens, which boasts a resolution of 48 megapixels. This enhancement will allow the camera to capture more light, resulting in impressive image quality in 0.5x mode, especially in low-light conditions.

Furthermore, this upgrade opens up the possibility of capturing 48-megapixel ProRAW images in Ultra Wide mode. This means users will have more detailed images for versatile editing and the ability to print at large sizes.
This information was shared by supply chain expert Ming-chi Kuo and is considered reliable.

Rear Camera Vertical Layout with Multiple Upgrades

According to the latest rumors, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will feature a vertical rear camera layout instead of the diagonal design found on the iPhone 15. The new rear camera module consists of two separate camera rings: one for the Wide lens and one for the Ultrawide lens. This layout is believed to facilitate cinematic video recording, a feature currently exclusive to the higher-end iPhone 15 Pro models.

Camera with the Best Telephoto Lens Ever on an iPhone

The iPhone 15 Pro Max introduced a periscope telephoto camera, bringing a significant improvement to optical zoom, up to 5x. Due to space constraints inside the chassis, this sensor could not be included in the regular iPhone 15 Pro.

A standout feature of the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s camera system could be the inclusion of a super telephoto lens, providing much more impressive optical zoom capabilities than previous iPhone generations.

Typically, the term “super telephoto” or “telephoto” is used to describe lenses with focal lengths exceeding 300mm. In contrast, the current telephoto lens on the iPhone is only equivalent to a focal length of 77mm. Therefore, if the rumor about the super telephoto lens on the iPhone 16 Pro Max is accurate, the zoom capabilities of the device will be greatly enhanced.

Super telephoto lenses are commonly used in sports and wildlife photography to capture faraway subjects. However, they also find effective applications in portrait photography due to their ability to create an incredibly blurred background, as long as the appropriate distance is maintained between the subject and the photographer.

New Lens Coating to Reduce Flare

According to Apple Insider, the tech publication reports that Apple is implementing atomic layer deposition (ALD) technology in the production process of camera lenses for the iPhone. This technique helps minimize flaring and ghosting – which are unwanted areas of haze around the main subject, commonly encountered when shooting towards a strong light source, due to light reflecting multiple times between lens elements and the image sensor.

It is expected that only the higher-end iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models will receive this new technology, while the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will continue to use the current lens technology.

New Shutter Button on the iPhone 16

All ‌iPhone 16‌ models are expected to feature a dedicated camera shutter button, marking a new advancement in the photography and videography experience on the iPhone. This physical button brings several convenient features, allowing users to capture their desired moments more quickly and precisely.

This button will add functionality such as the ability to zoom in and out by swiping left and right on the button, focus on a subject with a soft press, and start recording with a harder press. The shutter button will be located on the bottom right side of the ‌iPhone 16, below the volume and ringer buttons.
