Airline Ticket Prices for the 30/4-1/5 Holiday Period Dip

According to a survey conducted on April 26, the strain on airline ticket prices for the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route has begun to ease. On April 27, ticket prices for this route were at 1.8 million VND (excluding taxes and fees). During the following holiday period (from April 28 to May 1), ticket prices will fluctuate between 1.3 and 1.5 million VND. For the return trip, Ho Chi Minh City – Hanoi airline tickets are priced at 2.1 million VND on the first day of the holiday. On subsequent days, the cost will also be between 1.3 and 1.5 million VND.

Ticket prices for the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route have decreased during the 30/4-1/5 holiday period.

Compared to the peak of the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday (end of February), **Vietnam Airlines** reported that several evening and morning flights had sold out for economy class. For flights that still had seats available, ticket prices were mostly above 3.5 million VND. At that time, even though **Bamboo Airways** and **Vietjet** Air still had seats available, ticket prices were around 3.4 million VND.

For tourist routes, the Hanoi – Phu Quoc route currently has return ticket prices during April 27 – May 1 that are quite expensive, reaching 8.5 million VND (excluding taxes and fees). The Hanoi – Quy Nhon route is sold out during the above period. If you change your travel schedule to April 28 – May 2, the ticket price will be close to 6 million VND.

According to Ms. Tho, an employee of an airline ticket sales agency in Hanoi, “During the 30/4-1/5 holiday period, people tend to travel instead of returning to their hometowns like during the Lunar New Year period. This has led to the rapid sell-out of tourist routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. However, it cannot be denied that the decision of airlines to increase flights during the past period has helped to cool down ticket prices for the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route.”

Ms. Tho said that at present, it is difficult for passengers to book cheap airline tickets for travel because the departure date is very close. She advises that if you plan to take a vacation during the holiday period, you should continuously monitor ticket prices one month in advance or through agents to get a suitable price.

Most tourist routes from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi are currently out of tickets during the holiday period.

Recently, **Vietnam Airlines** has opened more economy class tickets for sale with attractive prices for the late-night time slot, such as economy saver tickets (from 1.7 – 1.9 million VND/leg including taxes, fees) for the Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City route. The number of economy saver tickets on the routes between Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang, Nha Trang, Quy Nhon have also been increased.

The aforementioned airline will operate more than 2,000 additional flights during the late-night hours after 9 pm daily on routes between many tourist destinations to provide passengers with more options. Some business class seats of **Vietnam Airlines** are priced at just over 1.9 million VND (including taxes, fees) for some domestic routes with departure times before 6 am and after 9 pm.

In addition to adding night flights for domestic routes, **Vietjet** Air continues to increase flight frequency between Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City – Dien Bien to 28 flights/week. The Hanoi – Dien Bien route will increase to 14 flights a week from May 3-11.

During the Hung Kings’ Commemoration holiday week, 30/4-1/5, **Vietjet** will add 86,000 seats, equivalent to over 450 flights on tourist routes, increasing the frequency of flights to and from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Nha Trang.
