Rach Dia Bridge: Connecting Nha Be and District 7

Construction began in July 2023 on the Rach Dia Bridge, spanning the Rach Dia Canal. This bridge will connect Nha Be District and District 7, enhancing connectivity and serving as a vital link for transportation.

The Rach Dia Bridge project, with an investment of over 500 billion VND, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2024. It will replace the old and dilapidated iron bridge and alleviate traffic congestion in the southern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City.

The new Rach Dia Bridge will be 318 meters long and 9-10.5 meters wide, consisting of 9 spans. The bridge approaches will be a total of 233 meters long and 14-27 meters wide.

According to Project Management Unit 4 of Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Transport, the project is currently nearly 50% complete.

After several months of construction, the overall progress of the project has reached nearly 50%. The bridge section crossing the Rach Dia Canal has completed 10 out of 10 foundation piers and 8 out of 10 bridge pier bodies.

Dozens of workers and heavy machinery are also working around the clock to construct the bridge’s components.

The bridge approaches are currently undergoing roadway treatment, load-reducing slabs, and the installation of 95% of drainage pipes. The construction of the roadbed and retaining walls is ongoing.

The construction site has four construction teams (three on land and one on water).

Prior to construction, the relocation of infrastructure, compensation, support, and resettlement for residents were completed, and 100% of the land was handed over in late 2023.

For certain critical components that must be constructed in the middle of the canal, the contractor deploys two large barges to transport heavy machinery to the site.

Upon completion, the new Rach Dia Bridge will connect Le Van Luong and Nguyen Van Linh directly, serving as a vital link and enhancing connectivity for Nha Be District and District 7. It will also alleviate traffic congestion on Rach Dia 2 Bridge on Nguyen Huu Tho Road, which is currently overloaded and often experiences traffic jams during peak hours.
