Local Marketplace Sets New Standards with Suite of Initiatives to Empower Local Sellers

According to the E-commerce Market Overview of Q1-2024 and Q2 Forecast-2024 recently published by Metric, both total revenue and local product sales increased by more than 50% in Q1.

This segment shows that E-commerce is no longer just a playground for enterprises in big cities but has shown a tendency to expand its influence to provinces/cities on the one hand, and on the other hand, it has reinforced the “National E-commerce Development Plan 2021 – 2025” approved by the Prime Minister four years ago. Its main goal is 50% of the communes and administrative units nationwide to have businesses conducting online sales or providing online services.

Following this direction, Shopee’s local seller support programs are considered a necessary step and have been welcomed by ministries and sectors, creating conditions for implementation. This becomes an important stepping stone for the platform to expand current support programs, introduce new business initiatives, and balance the interests of the E-commerce platform, “tripod” including sellers, buyers, and the community economy.

Efforts to promote Digitization and develop the local economy with Shopee Choice program

In mid-April this year, Shopee officially launched the Shopee Choice program, partnering with thousands of sellers and merchandise suppliers to introduce users to quality products, seamless shopping experiences and satisfy the criteria “Good Price – Free Shipping – Easy Returns” with packages of three products starting from only VND 19,000.

With Shopee Choice, users can shop comfortably without having to compare prices between stores on the entire platform because the system automatically selects the best priced products to introduce to buyers, saving time and giving them many surplus values in shopping costs and having seamless shopping experiences. Especially from now until April 30th, when purchasing a VND 19,000 combo on Shopee Choice, users will receive a voucher for up to VND 20,000 and free shipping for orders from VND 25,000 and can be returned within 15 days.

The outstanding difference of Shopee Choice compared to Shopee’s current programs is that it focuses on maximizing comprehensive operational support. As a result, many local sellers, especially craft businesses in Bac Ninh and Nam Dinh, have expanded their online sales channels alongside traditional business models. This transition took place smoothly and without interruption in terms of time or process, because sellers were empowered to operate the floor and focus entirely on improving product quality.

In short, businesses maintain their role as product suppliers while Shopee manages the entire marketing process, providing full operational services, packaging, shipping and sales promotion activities, helping to minimize costs operational activities such as warehousing, sales, and efficiency management indicators, while optimizing order conversion rates.

Shopee Choice helps sellers reach a large number of customers on the E-commerce platform in a professional and effective way.

Just a short time after its launch, many domestic sellers have successfully brought their products into the Shopee Choice program, helping to increase sales by more than 3 times compared to the first day of market launch. Among them are the participation of many businesses from two craft villages in Bac Ninh and Nam Dinh.

By the end of 2024, the number of sellers participating in Shopee Choice is expected to increase 25 times in order to expand the maximum product catalog serving users. During that time, Shopee continues to actively cooperate with agencies and departments to find potential domestic manufacturers and sellers, affirming the platform’s commitment to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as emerging Vietnamese brands.

Making a strong mark with successful local seller support programs

Entering the Vietnamese E-commerce market since 2016, Shopee aims to help consumers and small businesses in the region benefit the most from an E-commerce platform with built-in payment and shipping services. After 8 years of operation and holding the leading position in the market for many years, Shopee still maintains this guiding principle and continues to invest more deeply in local seller support programs for the long term.

Early in 2023, Shopee and ShopeeFood collaborated with FoodMap to launch the “Basket of Love Orange” campaign, supporting farmers to sell nearly 2 tons of oranges every day at the peak period. This is the premise for the three parties to continue implementing the “Honoring Vietnamese Agricultural Products” project from April 2023 to April 2024, aiming to preserve long-standing indigenous trees, introduce Vietnamese agricultural products widely and improve livelihoods of farmers. Up to now, the program has promoted more than 45 types of fruits and agricultural specialties from 10 provinces and cities and is currently supporting 10 farming households to obtain VietGAP quality certificates.

Following the success of “Honoring Vietnamese Agricultural Products”, from April 2024 to December 2024, Shopee launched a livestream series called “Shopee – Tinh Hoa Viet Du Ky”, a new initiative to support businesses and local sellers to do business effectively on the E-commerce platform.

“Shopee – Tinh Hoa Viet Du Ky” introduces agricultural specialties from more than 20 provinces and cities across Vietnam through cultural stories and offers many attractive incentives.

In early 2024, Shopee also coordinated with the Can Tho Department of Industry and Trade to support businesses and sellers in the Mekong Delta region to access E-commerce. It is expected that Shopee will continue to organize about 25 seminars this year in localities with great E-commerce potential in 18 provinces and cities and expand to mountainous areas in the North, the Mekong Delta and the Central Highlands – the coastal region of the Central of Vietnam.

At the same time, Shopee continues to improve customer-centric solutions through a series of policies such as Super Easy Returns, COD, and Fast and On-time Delivery, while also expanding the Global Sales Program (SIP) to create opportunities for domestic businesses to expand their business operations to foreign markets. In particular, the platform focuses on the transportation sector and closely and comprehensively cooperates with logistics partners to ensure an optimal shopping experience.
