CMC Invests Quarter Billion USD in 1,000 Next-Gen NVIDIA GPUs

Recently, at CMC Creative Space in Ho Chi Minh City, CMC Group Chairman Nguyen Trung Chinh met with the leadership of NVIDIA Corporation to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two enterprises.

Participating in the meeting, the NVIDIA delegation included: Mr. Keith Strier – Vice President of NVIDIA Corporation, Vice President of Global AI Initiatives; Mr. John Ashley – Director of Global Public Sector Architecture Solutions & NVIDIA AI Technology Center; and Mr. Anissh Pandey – Director of NVIDIA Asia Pacific. The CMC Technology Group Corporation (CMC) side included: Mr. Nguyen Trung Chinh – Chairman of the Board of Directors/Executive Chairman; Mr. Ho Thanh Tung – Senior Executive Vice President, General Director of the Group; and key technology leaders from both sides. Also attending the meeting were Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Consul General of Vietnam in San Francisco, USA; Mr. Vo Xuan Hoai, Director of the National Innovation Center NIC under the Ministry of Planning and Investment; and Mr. Nguyen Anh Thi, Director of Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP).

Within the framework of the working session, CMC’s management introduced the infrastructure of the Tan Thuan CMC Data Center, the ability to transfer technology and develop AI technology in Vietnam; as well as the cooperation capacity and capability to become a comprehensive partner of NVIDIA providing digital infrastructure for AI Factories, Cloud Partners, and Service Delivery Partners of NVIDIA for the domestic and international enterprise market. CMC is the leading ICT and Telecommunications Group in Vietnam with a history of 31 years of establishment and development. With extensive experience and strong potential in the ICT-Telecommunications sector, CMC and the Ho Chi Minh City authorities aim for comprehensive strategic cooperation with NVIDIA to build the city into the AI hub of the country, focusing on developing AI ICT human resources, applying AI technology to solve problems of the city, as well as creating new values, making AI technology a driving force for the economic development of Ho Chi Minh City. On the other hand, the Ho Chi Minh City authorities also commit to creating the best working environment and conditions for companies like NVIDIA and CMC to develop and create values for all parties, working together to build Ho Chi Minh City into a smart city, the AI center of the country, contributing to making Ho Chi Minh City one of the top 5 AI cities in the world, a locomotive driving other cities across the country to develop together. Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Consul General of Vietnam in San Francisco, USA, pledged to promote the strategic cooperation between the US and Vietnam through diplomatic channels, aiming to soon remove import conditions for high-tech equipment and support strategic cooperation programs between NVIDIA and Vietnamese enterprises, including CMC.

CMC’s management and the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Phan Van Mai welcomed the NVIDIA delegation.

Sharing during the working session with NVIDIA’s senior leaders, Chairman Nguyen Trung Chinh said: “Artificial Intelligence (AI) will create a new era, an AI era that has a broad impact on human society in all aspects of life, economy, and society. AI is becoming an indispensable part of CMC’s business plan and development strategy, especially with a predicted workforce of 15,000 ICT engineers by 2028, of which 6,000 AI engineers will account for 40% of the Group’s total workforce.”

Over the years, CMC has been one of the top players in the cloud computing market with its CMC Cloud Make in Vietnam platform. CMC Cloud is a domestic cloud that has been pioneering in providing high-performance computing services on NVIDIA GPU chipsets since 2017. At the beginning of 2024, CMC announced a plan to invest 1,000 NVIDIA GH200 GPUs worth USD 250 million in the 2024-2025 period, contributing to the strong development of advanced applications and solutions, focusing on the ecosystem of interactive technology products in 6 main areas, including: chip design, artificial intelligence (AI), big data, social data, Internet of Things – Smart Devices – Image Processing (IoT) and Blockchain Technology/Information Security (Blockchain)…

Mr. Keith Strier – Vice President of NVIDIA Corporation, Vice President of Global AI Initiatives highly appreciated CMC’s vision and strategy in taking advantage of the growing AI wave to develop with the world, and expressed his willingness to partner with CMC. Assessing that Vietnam has all the factors to develop strongly and master artificial intelligence, Mr. Keith Strier, Vice President of NVIDIA Corporation, emphasized: “NVIDIA does not focus on business but on development cooperation, so we will work with Vietnamese enterprises, including CMC, to accelerate digital transformation, aiming to bring Ho Chi Minh City into the top 5 AI-leading cities in the world and Vietnam into an AI powerhouse.”

The delegation visited the Tan Thuan CMC Data Center in Ho Chi Minh City.

Following the speech of NVIDIA’s Group leader, Chairman Nguyen Trung Chinh also affirmed that CMC’s strengths in Data Center and Cloud infrastructure will wing the combined strength of the cooperation between NVIDIA and CMC. Currently, CMC’s Tan Thuan Data Center is designed in accordance with the most stringent standards for a modern data center. This is the pioneering Data Center in Vietnam with Uptime Tier III certification for construction, and is also the pioneering Data Center in Vietnam with TVRA standard security and risk prevention assessment, meeting the digital infrastructure challenges for AI Factories in Vietnam and the region. After nearly 7 years of development, CMC Cloud has become the leading domestic cloud service in Vietnam, accounting for over 25% of the market share.

In the coming time, CMC plans to expand investments in AI DC in Ho Chi Minh City Hi-Tech Park on a large scale of 40MW, ensuring the availability of AI Cloud infrastructure as well as private Cloud infrastructure for each customer, thereby helping the AI community with infrastructure and an environment to develop applications.

In relation to human resource training solutions, CMC commits to joining hands with NVIDIA to build an AI community, including: research, startups, and AI human resource development, targeting to transform 1 million programmers with the ability to apply AI to create new values, of which Ho Chi Minh City accounts for over 65% of the workforce.

CMC’s head said CMC University determines to focus on many factors: teaching staff, equipment system, modern training methods with curricula suitable for AI technology laboratories, semiconductor chips, etc. to attract excellent students to participate in the field of training and research in AI, Big Data, Blockchain, etc. CMC University has an orientation to expand its enrollment scale from 15,000 – 20,000 students by 2033, of which 50% will be in the Information Technology industry, and plans to include NVIDIA’s training programs into the curriculum of Artificial Intelligence (AI), integrated circuit design (IC Design) courses, aiming to develop high-tech human resources, contributing to the realization of the Government’s target of 50,000 semiconductor engineers by 2030.
