The People’s Committee of Nghệ An Province has issued Decision No. 30/QD-UBND dated February 27, approving the investment plan and allowing Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) to implement the project for Expansion and Renovation of Aircraft Parking Area at Vinh International Airport.
The objective of the project is to expand and renovate the aircraft parking area at Vinh International Airport. The project’s scope of investment includes the construction, expansion, and renovation of the aircraft parking area, increasing the total number of parking positions to 9 code C positions.
The project will be implemented in Nghi Liên commune, Vinh city. The estimated land area for the project is over 5.97 hectares (the land belongs to the Air Defense and Air Force Command temporarily handed over to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to implement the project for the construction of the parking area, terminal, and multilevel substation according to Minutes 612/BB-BGĐQP dated October 12, 2000); The expanded area is over 2.62 hectares (belongs to the defense land of the 371st Division of the Air Defense and Air Force Command transferred to the local management).
Vinh International Airport.
The total investment capital for the project is over VND 230 billion, 100% of which is self-financed by the investor. The construction progress, completion of the project, and putting it into operation shall be carried out within 12 months from the date of completion of land clearance, land handover, and issuance of construction permits. The operating period is 50 years from the date the investor is decided to be allocated land.
In the plan for the airport system, Vinh International Airport is designed as a 4E airport with a total area of over 557 hectares; the expected design capacity is 8 million passengers per year and it ranks 6th out of 14 international airports in Vietnam. Currently, the number of parking positions at Vinh International Airport can only accommodate a maximum of 6 aircraft, and during holidays and festivals, it requires 8-9 parking positions.
The existing take-off runway, which is 2,400m long, has been invested in renovation since 2003, but it can only accommodate A230/A231 aircraft or equivalent with reduced load, and cannot accommodate large-body aircraft such as A350, B777, B787, etc., which prevents the opening of international routes with long flight distances.
The quality of the take-off and landing runway has deteriorated, requiring frequent maintenance and repair. There is no parallel taxiway system, which affects the take-off and landing time of flights. Therefore, the expansion and renovation of Vinh International Airport is in urgent need.
