At the regular economic and social press conference for April 2024, organized by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee on the afternoon of May 3, the Head of Department of Planning Management for Region 2, the Department of Planning and Architecture, Mr. Nguyen Huu Anh, said that the Department is currently waiting for the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee to approve the plan for organizing a contest for selecting architectural and planning ideas for Binh Quoi – Thanh Da peninsula. The contest is expected to be held in May 2024.
The contest will be organized in 2 rounds. In round 1, the preliminary selection council will select 5 design consulting units that have sufficient conditions, capacity, and appropriate experience to participate in round 2.
The units participating in round 2 will be provided with full detailed information about the planning and design requirements and will be given 4-6 weeks to complete the task. Afterward, the contest entries must be submitted as per the requirements and regulations of the organizing committee.
According to Mr. Huu Anh, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has approved the policy to mobilize socialized sources to organize award ceremonies commensurate with the scale of the contest.
Binh Quoi – Thanh Da peninsula has undergone many years of research and investment appeals. However, since the project is large-scale, with high total investment capital, and the work of compensation and site clearance is complicated and has been ongoing for many years, the project has not been implemented. The delay in the project has had a great impact on the people’s lives and management work.
Thus, the contest is being organized on an international scale to seek out unique ideas and feasible and optimal development solutions that are suitable for the city’s development orientation.
It is known that the Binh Quoi – Thanh Da urban area project was planned since 1992. It is located almost entirely in Ward 28 of Binh Thanh District, with an area of over 426.9 hectares.
In 2013, the city assigned a consortium of Binh Minh Production and Trading Import-Export Company Limited (Bitexco Group) and Emaar Properties PJSC (United Arab Emirates) as investors, with a total investment capital of about 30.7 trillion VND. This total investment only includes the construction of the main infrastructure and the cost of compensation, support, and resettlement for land acquisition to implement the project.
