According to the leadership of the Ministry of Transport (GTVT), in recent times, the high airfares of domestic airlines have directly affected the travel needs of people, especially during peak seasons such as the recent 30/4 – 1/5 holiday.

The leadership of the Ministry of Transport requested the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to urgently review, and in case of detecting any irregularities, to promptly issue instructions, make corrections, and handle violations in accordance with the authority (if any); at the same time, organizing inspections and reviewing the ticket sales, declaration, and listing of prices by airlines, and absolutely not allowing the situation of price increase against regulations.

The leadership of the Ministry of Transport requested the Transport Department to proactively monitor and timely advise the Ministry on the direction of agencies and units to strengthen the inspection of transport activities and passenger services, enhance solutions to best meet the travel needs of people, stabilize fares, prevent price increases against regulations, especially during the upcoming summer peak season, on the principle of harmonizing the interests and rights of enterprises and the needs of the people.

Airfares during the 30/4-1/5 holiday were reported by the public to be higher than in previous years.

The Minister of Transport requested the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and the Transport Department to immediately carry out the inspection and report the results of the inspection before May 10.

Previously, according to the information on air ticket sales websites, airfares from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City during the 30/4-1/5 holiday to popular tourist destinations such as Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, etc. were all at quite high levels.

Specifically, on the Hanoi – Phu Quoc route, round-trip airfares cost between VND 8.5-9.7 million, which is VND 1.5-2 million higher than the previous week before the holiday.

On the Hanoi – Da Nang route, round-trip airfares recorded a price of VND 4.4 million or more. This airfare is almost double the round-trip airfare of VND 2.1 – 2.4 million recorded just a week before the holiday. Not only that, but even with the high prices, the number of flights with available seats was quite low.

According to the information from the General Statistics Office, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in April increased by 4.4% compared to the same period last year. The average increase in the first 4 months of the year was 3.93%.

It is notable that the price index for the transport group in April increased by 1.95% compared to the previous month, causing the overall CPI to increase by 0.19 percentage points. In which, air passenger transport prices increased by up to 10.42%; waterway increased by 0.06%; road increased by 0.13%; bus increased by 0.21%, and taxi increased by 0.56% due to the increase in gasoline prices.
