The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Ministers, members of the Government, leaders of ministries, ministerial-level agencies, and agencies under the Government; comrade Dinh Van An, Assistant to the General Secretary; representatives of leaders of the Central Party and National Assembly; and leaders of some state-owned corporations.

According to the agenda, the meeting focuses on assessing the socio-economic situation in April and the first four months of 2024, the status of capital allocation and disbursement for public investment, implementation of three national target programs, direction, tasks, and key solutions for the coming time, and several other important contents.

According to the reports at the meeting, in April and the first four months of the year, Vietnam’s economy continued to be “doubly affected” by adverse external factors and persistent domestic limitations and shortcomings; while Vietnam is a developing country, its economy is in transition, its scale is still modest, its openness is high, and its resilience and competitiveness are limited.

However, thanks to the drastic participation of the entire political system under the leadership of the Politburo, the Secretariat, and headed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the socio-economic situation continued to change positively and comprehensively.

The macroeconomy is stable, inflation is controlled, major balances are secured, and industries and sectors continue to grow; ensuring electricity supply, especially during the recent hot weather; investment and development continue to be promoted (including domestic investment and attracting FDI); cultural and artistic activities take place actively, especially during the holidays; people’s lives continue to improve; social security is guaranteed, ensuring no shortage of food, even during the lean season; the fight against corruption and negativity is strengthened; national defense and security are enhanced; and external relations are expanded. Reputable international organizations assess Vietnam’s socio-economic development positively.

Besides the basic achievements, Vietnam still has limitations, shortcomings, and continues to face many difficulties and challenges.

The Prime Minister suggested some lessons learned, such as always following the situation closely to react to policies promptly and effectively; promoting personal responsibility, especially that of leaders; strengthening inspection and supervision right from the beginning of the work deployment, early on, from afar, from the grassroots level, to prevent minor violations from accumulating into serious violations.

Regarding the tasks and solutions in May, the Prime Minister emphasized important tasks, including preparing for the Central Conference and the National Assembly session, and urgent tasks, such as responding to drought and natural disasters…
