Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held separate meetings with key figures from the Republic of Korea and China on June 25, 2024, in Dalian, China, as reported by the Vietnam News Agency (VNA). These meetings took place on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2024.

In his meeting with Mr. Kim Sang-hyup, Co-Chairperson of the Presidential Commission on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth of the Republic of Korea, PM Chinh requested continued support from the RoK in development research, innovation, and adapting to climate change. This request falls under the bilateral framework agreement between the two nations regarding climate change cooperation.

PM Chinh also proposed that the RoK collaborate with Vietnam to ensure the successful organization of the 4th Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit in 2025. Mr. Kim affirmed the commission’s support for Vietnam in this endeavor and highlighted the potential for enhanced bilateral cooperation in green growth through specific initiatives and plans.

In a separate meeting with Mr. Lou Qiliang, Chairman and Director General of China Railway Signal Information Corporation (CRSC), PM Chinh expressed Vietnam’s interest in improving transport connectivity, particularly in the railway sector, to support industrialization and modernization. Recognizing China’s strengths in railway development, PM Chinh sought cooperation in this area, specifically requesting assistance in designing, construction, and technology transfer for several key railway lines connecting the two countries.

Mr. Lou responded positively, offering quality products at competitive costs, as well as assistance in human resource development and research and development cooperation.

Given the personnel shortages in Vietnam’s railway sector, PM Chinh encouraged the Chinese group to engage in discussions with relevant Vietnamese ministries and agencies to expedite cooperation projects and fulfill the agreements reached by the leaders of both countries.
