According to the newly approved master plan, the airport will serve as a domestic civil and military airport.
Specifically, from 2021 to 2030, Ca Mau Airport will be classified as a 4C-level civil airport and a Level II military airport. It is expected to serve approximately one million passengers and handle 1,000 tons of cargo annually, accommodating code C aircraft such as the A320/A321 and similar models.
Looking ahead to 2050, the airport will maintain its 4C and Level II status, but with an increased capacity to handle roughly three million passengers and 3,000 tons of cargo per year.
In terms of runway infrastructure, the airport’s runway will be expanded to measure 2,400m x 45m during the 2021-2030 period, aligning with the existing runway.
Regarding the passenger terminal, in the short term, the airport will undergo an expansion of its current terminal to cater to approximately one million passengers annually. By 2050, a new passenger terminal is planned to be constructed north of the runway, with a capacity to handle around three million passengers per year.
Previously, the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) and the People’s Committee of Ca Mau Province agreed on the necessity of upgrading and expanding Ca Mau Airport to accommodate commercial medium-range aircraft such as the A321/320/310 or the Embraer 195.
