A mysterious, heavily camouflaged vehicle was spotted at a Hanoi emissions testing center. With its distinctive square front-end design and ‘H’-shaped LED light bar, it’s clear that this is the new Hyundai Santa Fe.

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe is heavily camouflaged in Vietnam.

The fact that the car’s exterior was carefully covered suggests that it was undergoing testing in the Vietnamese market. It is possible that the completely new generation of Hyundai Santa Fe will be launched as soon as this year.

The imminent launch of the new Santa Fe seems even more plausible given the recent significant price adjustments for the current model, with reductions of up to VND 100 million depending on the version. The car’s price now ranges from VND 979 million to VND 1.269 billion.

Information about the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe in Vietnam is still scarce, and local dealerships have not yet started taking deposits for the new model.

The 2024 Santa Fe’s design is likely to be controversial.

Despite the controversy surrounding its new design, the appeal of the new Hyundai Santa Fe to Vietnamese consumers is undeniable. Compared to previous generations, the fifth generation of this model is completely different and shares no commonalities.

In terms of dimensions, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe measures 4,830 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, 1,720 to 1,780 mm in height depending on the configuration, and has a wheelbase of 2,815 mm. The new platform is 45 mm wider and 20 mm taller than its predecessor, and the wheelbase is also 50 mm longer.

The new Santa Fe is significantly larger than its predecessor.

Similar to the exterior, the interior also undergoes a “revolution”. The dashboard features a dual-curved screen setup, including an infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster, angled towards the driver. Below this is the climate control and infotainment area, which is reminiscent of Land Rover models. The buttons are a mix of physical and touch-sensitive types.

An interesting detail is the hidden air vents, which, together with the vertical metal bars, form ‘H’ shapes in a clever way. The South Korean automaker states that recycled plastic is used for the floor mats, ceiling, and even the backrests of the second and third rows. Another environmentally friendly material used is faux leather on the door trim.

The new Santa Fe’s interior has a minimalist button layout.

In terms of powertrain, it is almost certain that the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe will only be offered with gasoline engines in Vietnam, as the South Korean automaker has discontinued diesel engines across all markets.

Currently, the Santa Fe has three engine options. The first is a 2.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 278 horsepower and 422 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Hyundai has not specified whether this model has front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The second configuration is a 1.6L hybrid system carried over from the previous generation, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Only the engine output has been announced, which is 177 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque – the same as the current model.

The third option, which is likely to be the “standard” offering in many markets, is the 2.5L naturally aspirated gasoline engine producing 192 horsepower and 246 Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Hyundai Santa Fe’s direct competitors in Vietnam are currently the Mazda CX-8 and Kia Sorento. Both rival models have not received significant upgrades in a long time, which gives the new Santa Fe an advantage when it launches.
