The Stock Market Boom: Vietnam Surpasses 8 Million Trading Accounts, Averaging Over 3,500 New Accounts Daily in June

According to data from the Vietnam Securities Depository (VSD), domestic investor securities accounts reached approximately 8 million by the end of June, the highest number on record.

In June 2024, domestic investor accounts increased by 106,580, a decrease of 25,430 accounts compared to the increase in May. Of these, individual investors opened 106,417 new accounts, while institutional investors opened 163 new accounts.

On average, the stock market recorded over 3,550 new individual and institutional accounts per day.

Cumulatively since the beginning of the year, domestic investor securities accounts have increased by 751,316. The average number of new accounts per day is over 4,150.

As of the end of June, the total number of domestic investor securities accounts was approximately 8 million, the highest ever. Of these, individual investors held over 7.98 million accounts, equivalent to 8% of Vietnam’s population.

According to the Securities Market Development Strategy approved by the Government in late 2023, Vietnam aims to reach 9 million securities trading accounts by 2025 and 11 million by 2030. Thus, the number of securities accounts as of now is about 1 million accounts away from the short-term target.
