According to Major General Tuyen, the investigation has revealed that the accused individuals exploited their authority in the management of the gasoline trade, taxes, and banking to obtain and extend gasoline business licenses despite not meeting the legal requirements.

Mai Thi Hong Hanh (Director of Xuyen Viet Oil Company) and her accomplices illegally used funds from the gasoline price stabilization fund and environmental protection taxes for their business and personal activities.



In addition, Hanh used a portion of this money to establish relationships and bribe others. The Security Investigation Agency of the Ministry of Public Security is expediting the investigation to clarify the roles and handle the involved individuals in accordance with the law

The authorities are also verifying, freezing, and confiscating the property of related individuals to ensure the recovery of state assets.

In connection with the Xuyen Viet Oil case, in April 2024, the investigative agency detained Mr. Tran Duy Dong, Deputy Director of the Trade Promotion Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade. Mr. Le Duy Minh, Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance (former Director of Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department), was also arrested on charges of receiving bribes.

In December 2023, the Security Investigation Agency initiated legal proceedings and detained Mr. Le Duc Tho, former Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee of Ben Tre province, for investigation of the crime of abuse of position and power to influence others for personal gain.

Ms. Mai Thi Hong Hanh (Director of Xuyen Viet Oil) and Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Phuong (Deputy Director of Xuyen Viet Oil) have also been detained.
