The Hon Nua – Vung Ro Bay luxury resort project spans 2.5 sq km and is currently seeking investment of approximately VND 20,000 billion. The goal is to create a unique, upscale, and modern tourism complex catering to both domestic and international travelers.

By 2025, Phu Yen province plans to develop tourism and services in the Vung Ro Bay area, including eco-tourism and resorts such as the Cultural, Eco-Tourism, and Resort City of Bien Ho – Da Bia (phase 2); Detailed planning for the Rosa Varella Tourism Area; and Detailed planning for the administrative port area. Notably, the Detailed Planning for the Hon Nua – Vung Ro Bay Luxury Resort Complex stands out.

Vung Ro Bay is located about 35 km south of Tuy Hoa city center. This pristine and picturesque bay also holds strategic importance for national defense, security, and maritime economic development.

Vung Ro Bay spans over 16 sq km and is surrounded by three majestic mountain ranges: Deo Ca in the north, Da Bia in the east, and Hon Ba in the west.

Hon Nua Island, rising over 105 meters above sea level, is located south of Vung Ro Bay. This small island is about 2 km from the shore. As viewed from Deo Ca, Hon Nua resembles a dinosaur lying in the blue sea. The waters around Hon Nua are crystal clear, allowing visibility to the seabed on sunny days. The island also boasts colossal cliffs with intricate networks of horizontal and vertical cracks, creating an air of mystery.

At the peak of Hon Nua sits a striking red lighthouse, built in 2002. The Hon Nua Lighthouse serves as a beacon for ships navigating the waters of Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa provinces, guiding them in and out of Vung Ro Bay.

Vung Ro Bay, and Hon Nua in particular, has been recognized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as one of the most beautiful landscapes in Asia, comparable to the world’s most renowned attractions.

In addition to its advantageous geographical location, Vung Ro Bay holds a place in Vietnam’s proud history. During the war, Vung Ro Bay served as a secret arms shipment receiving point from the North via historic “no-number” ships. In recognition of its significance, the Vietnamese government designated Vung Ro as a National Historical and Cultural Relic Site in 1997.

Thanks to its favorable natural conditions, including a clean and calm marine environment, aquaculture has thrived in the area, especially spiny lobster farming. This is one of the earliest locations in South Central Vietnam where fishermen mastered the art of lobster farming, achieving high survival rates and producing lobsters of exceptional quality.

Beyond aquaculture, the locals have also capitalized on their strengths by offering experiential tourism activities such as fresh seafood dining on floating rafts, canoe trips to Hon Nua Island, squid fishing, and immersive experiences in the traditional lifestyle of a fishing village.

New roads are being built, gradually forming a comprehensive infrastructure system connecting Vung Ro with the Nam Phu Yen Economic Zone and the provinces of South Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands. The photo shows a section of National Highway 29 running through Vung Ro Bay.

Notably, Vung Ro Port has been and continues to be upgraded to become a bustling international gateway to the East Sea, serving as a vital transportation hub that drives the economic and social development of Phu Yen and the South Central region.

Given the bay’s inherent potential in terms of geography, history, tourism, and transportation, the Phu Yen Provincial People’s Committee has called for investments to develop Vung Ro Bay – Hon Nua into a luxury resort destination. The tourism potential of Vung Ro Bay and Hon Nua is immense. Local authorities are actively working to conserve the ecosystem to unlock the area’s tourism potential.
