The Quang Tri Airport project, with a total investment of over VND 5,800 billion, will be constructed by the T&T – Cienco 4 Joint Venture. The airport is located in Gio Quang, Gio Hai, and Gio Mai communes, Gio Linh district, and the groundbreaking ceremony was held on July 6, 2024.
The project covers an area of over 265 hectares and is designed to meet the standards of a 4C-category civil airport (according to the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization – ICAO) and a military airport at Level II.
The airport will be capable of accommodating Code E aircraft and is expected to serve up to 5 million passengers and 25,500 tons of cargo annually.
According to T&T Group, the Quang Tri Airport is envisioned to boost tourism, facilitate cargo transportation and logistics, and support the development of industrial parks, economic zones, commercial services, and airport towns. It will also contribute to national defense and security and assist in rescue and relief operations.
Additionally, the airport will serve as a significant transportation hub, attracting domestic and international businesses to invest in Quang Tri province.
“The project will shorten the journey between the North and the South, providing the most convenient access for people across the country, especially those with family members or comrades who fought and sacrificed on the Quang Tri battlefield, as well as international friends wishing to visit this historic land,” the project investor shared with the media.
The construction of Quang Tri Airport was approved by the Prime Minister under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) format in Decision No. 2148 dated December 20, 2021. The pre-feasibility study report was approved by the Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee in August 2023.
Quang Tri Ranks Third in the Country for Affordable Living Costs
In March 2024, the General Statistics Office released the Spatial Cost of Living Index (SCOLI) for 2023. According to the report, Quang Tri province had the third-lowest cost of living index in Vietnam, with Ben Tre and Nam Dinh provinces taking the first and second spots, respectively.
In the first half of 2024, the GRDP of Quang Tri province is estimated to increase by 5.02% over the same period last year. Specifically, the agriculture, forestry, and fishery sector grew by 3.34%; the industry and construction sector by 4.55%; the service sector by 6.14%; and taxes on products minus subsidies on products by 3.97%.
In terms of economic structure, the agriculture, forestry, and fishery sector accounted for 20.39%; the industry and construction sector for 31.88%; the service sector for 43.81%; and taxes on products minus subsidies on products for 3.92% (compared to 22.81%, 25.81%, 47.17%, and 4.21% in the first half of 2023, respectively).
As of May 31, 2024, the province had mobilized VND 38,537 billion in capital, a 5.76% increase compared to the end of 2023. The total outstanding loans to the economy reached VND 52,405 billion, a 1.54% increase. Non-performing loans amounted to VND 622 billion, representing 1.19% of the total outstanding loans, a significant rise of 44.77% compared to the end of the previous year.
State budget revenue from January to June 15, 2024, reached VND 2,014.27 billion, equivalent to 51.63% of the local estimate, and a 27.67% increase over the same period last year. Local budget expenditure was VND 4,919.01 billion, or 52% of the local estimate, a 2% year-on-year increase.
Realized investment capital in the province was estimated at VND 9,347.11 billion, a 3.57% increase compared to the same period last year. The consumer price index increased by an average of 4.04%.
