On the morning of August 6th, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh inspected two key projects of the city: the Hanoi Pediatric Hospital project and the pilot urban railway project from Nhon to Hanoi Station.

Regarding the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro project, Chairman Tran Sy Thanh and the delegation experienced traveling on the project’s train from Station No. 1 (Nhon Station) to Station No. 8 (Cau Giay Station) and inspected the underground drilling construction at package CP03 of the project.

At the site, the representative of the investor, the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB), stated that the elevated section of the project has been completed 100%.

For the underground section, from station S9 to station S12, including the section after station S8 to station S9, the overall progress reached 43.5%. Station S10 is currently constructing the outer structure, station S11 is waterproofing the bottom slab, and station S12 is installing the top slab reinforcement…

According to the plan, the tunnel drilling and assembly will be completed by November 2025. The entire underground section of the project will be completed by December 2027.

“For now, the elevated section of the Nhon-Hanoi Station line will apply provisional unit prices for both tickets and maintenance, operation, and maintenance, similar to the Cat Linh-Ha Dong Line 2A. The free trial period for passengers will last from 2 to 3 months,” said Vu Hong Truong, Chairman of the Board of Members and General Director of Hanoi Railway One-Member Limited Company (HMC), regarding the fare for the Nhon-Hanoi Station urban railway.

Regarding the official commercial operation date, previously, MRB proposed August 9. However, this morning, after directly inspecting the stations, the City People’s Committee Chairman requested the investor to put the elevated section into operation as soon as possible, on August 8.

“Report any problems immediately, and I, along with the City People’s Committee, will support in resolving them. Preparations must be comprehensive, meticulous, and safe,” said Chairman of the City People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh. Thus, after 14 years of waiting, Hanoi residents have officially ridden the nearly VND 35,000 billion metro line.

Regarding the official operation of the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro line on August 8, the MRB leader said that the investor could meet this deadline. According to the MRB leader, in reality, the trains have been technically operating on the route with the number of employees and engineers prepared by both the investor and the operator, Hanoi Metro Company, for a long time.

Maximum capacity reaches 9,440 passengers/hour/direction

According to the technical design of the Nhon-Hanoi Station urban railway elevated section, each train consists of 4 carriages, each carrying 236 passengers, with a capacity of 944 passengers per trip.

Hanoi Railway Company has submitted to the Hanoi People’s Committee a plan to operate 4 and 6 trains. Accordingly, the train headway during peak hours is 6 minutes/trip (on average, there are 10 trips/hour/direction at the station to pick up and drop off passengers). Thus, the maximum capacity of the route reaches 9,440 passengers/hour/direction.

A few days ago, on August 3, the State Inspection Council for Construction Work Acceptance inspected and accepted the Nhon-Hanoi Station urban railway elevated section.

According to the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board, the project’s elevated section packages have been constructed to meet design requirements. Quality management and acceptance have been carried out according to regulations, and the system operation and trial operation have met technical conditions and project contracts. Procedures related to fire protection, the environment, and system safety have been implemented and approved by competent state agencies.

The Nhon-Hanoi Station urban railway line has a total length of 12.5 km, including an elevated section of 8.5 km and an underground section of about 4.0 km. The route starts at Nhon, following National Highway 32, Cau Dien, Mai Dich, the intersection with Ring Road 3, Cau Giay (intersection with Ring Road 2), Kim Ma, Cat Linh, Quoc Tu Giam, and ends at Hanoi Station (on Tran Hung Dao Street, in front of Hanoi Station).

The entire line includes 8 elevated stations (S1 to S8) and 4 underground stations (S9 to S12), including 2 transfer stations.

The project was approved in 2006, and Hanoi planned to start construction in 2006 and complete it in 2010. However, it was not until September 2010 that the project officially started construction and was delayed more than 10 times.

After many delays, the total investment capital for the project also increased from over VND 18,000 billion to VND 34,826 billion.
