Petrovietnam Task Force Reaches Out to Support Son La and Dien Bien Residents in Overcoming Flood Aftermath

On August 1st and 2nd, a task force from Petrovietnam, the National Oil and Gas Group, visited Son La and Dien Bien provinces to offer support and condolences to the local communities affected by the recent floods and landslides. The team extended a helping hand to the people and authorities, demonstrating their commitment to alleviating the challenges faced in the aftermath of these natural disasters.

SON LA PROVINCE RECEIVES BILLIONS IN SUPPORT TO OVERCOME FLOOD DAMAGES

Comrade Giang Thi Huong, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Son La Province, shared with the Petrovietnam delegation about the damage caused by the floods: “Son La Province has experienced continuous heavy rains, causing flash floods, landslides, and widespread flooding, especially in Mai Son, Thuan Chau districts, and Son La city.”

The floods have had negative impacts, isolating and cutting off many residential areas. Unfortunately, there were 11 casualties and several injuries. Additionally, 2,531 houses were damaged, with 113 completely destroyed and 231 requiring emergency relocation. Thousands of hectares of rice and crops were submerged, and thousands of cattle and poultry were lost to the floods. Vital infrastructure, including transportation routes, schools, medical stations, irrigation works, and electricity, water, and communication systems, sustained severe damage.

Empathizing with the losses and damages incurred by Son La Province, the Petrovietnam delegation presented a donation of VND 1.5 billion to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Son La Province. They also organized visits to offer condolences and sympathy to families who lost loved ones and those who suffered property damage in the recent floods. It is hoped that this support will help the people quickly overcome their difficulties and stabilize their lives.

On behalf of the leaders of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and the people affected by the floods, Comrade Giang Thi Huong expressed gratitude for the sentiments and sharing of Petrovietnam and PVEP. She pledged to use the supported funds effectively and for the intended purpose, helping the people in the affected areas to soon stabilize their lives.

Subsequently, with the support of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thuan Chau district, the Petrovietnam delegation directly visited Tong Co commune, Thuan Chau district, Son La province, to visit and present gifts to families severely affected by the floods.

Reporting to the delegation, Comrade Lo Minh Hue, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tong Co commune, said: “Due to the influence of Storm No. 2, there have been continuous heavy rains in the commune, leading to floods and inundation in many places. As of noon on July 26, a total of 276 households were affected in terms of housing, with the most severe damage in three villages: Thum Cay, Phe, and Co, with 39 households completely flooded. Moreover, the floods damaged 42 hectares of rice, 15.6 hectares of ponds, and 76.6 hectares of other crops. In addition, many inter-village roads in Thum Cay, Phe, and Co were completely flooded.”

“At present, the lives of many households are extremely difficult. The gifts from Petrovietnam and PVEP are truly valuable and meaningful. On behalf of the Party Committee, authorities, and people of the commune, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the delegation for braving the long and arduous journey to directly encourage and support the people of Tong Co commune in stabilizing their lives,” said Comrade Lo Minh Hue, touched.

Also, on August 1, Petrovietnam and PVEP presented a funding of VND 5 billion for the construction of a primary and secondary school in Muong Cai commune, Song Ma district.

TIMELY SUPPORT FOR DIEN BIEN PROVINCE TO OVERCOME FLOOD DAMAGES

On August 2, the Petrovietnam delegation, in collaboration with the Dien Bien Provincial Police delegation led by Colonel Pham Truong Giang, continued their support program for flood-affected people in Dien Bien Province.

Comrade Do Chi Thanh, Deputy General Director of Petrovietnam and Head of the delegation, shared: “With a spirit of mutual affection and the kindness of the Petroleum family, immediately after receiving the news of the damage caused by floods and landslides in the district, Petrovietnam promptly organized a working delegation to visit, present gifts, and support the people of Dien Bien Province.”

On this occasion, Petrovietnam presented a donation of VND 1.5 billion to Dien Bien Province to assist the people affected by the floods. “We hope that Dien Bien Province will quickly deliver these gifts from Petrovietnam to the households affected by the floods, helping them overcome their losses and stabilize their lives as soon as possible,” expressed Comrade Do Chi Thanh. During this visit, PVEP also presented VND 300 million to Dien Bien Province to support the people in overcoming the consequences of floods and landslides.

Reporting to the delegation, Comrade Nguyen Thai Binh, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dien Bien district, provided information: “As of July 31, flash floods and landslides in the district have claimed four lives, with three missing and seven injured. Additionally, 325 houses were damaged, including 21 houses that collapsed and were washed away, and 21 houses severely damaged with losses ranging from 50-70%. The floods also caused 74.5 hectares of rice fields to be buried under soil and rocks, which cannot be recovered, and 42.39 hectares of rice fields with minor damage that can be self-recovered by the people. Transportation routes and the electricity system were also severely affected…”

“On behalf of the district’s leaders, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the noble sentiments and kindness of Petrovietnam. The support of the Corporation has shared the burden with the district and the people during these challenging times,” expressed the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dien Bien district.

Also, on August 2, the Petrovietnam delegation directly visited Muong Pon commune to present gifts and offer condolences to households affected by severe flash floods and landslides. Comrade Do Chi Thanh, Deputy General Director of Petrovietnam, and the delegation members directly supported 21 families. Among them, four families who unfortunately lost their loved ones or had a family member who was an organizer in the Muong Pon 1 security guard group and whose house was washed away received VND 10 million each. Each household with a washed-away house received VND 5 million, and each household with a collapsed house was supported with VND 4 million, along with gifts from Petrovietnam. Meanwhile, PVEP presented each of the 21 severely affected households with VND 1 million in cash and a gift package.

Touched by the humanitarian actions of the delegation, Comrade Quang Van Tien, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Muong Pon commune, expressed his respect and gratitude to Petrovietnam and PVEP. He also hoped to continue receiving support from the Corporation in social security programs.
