The partnership between NCSOFT and VNGGames will enable users in Vietnam and Southeast Asia to access NCSOFT’s games more smoothly and easily, with quick, timely, and direct support from the publisher. Customer care policies are consistently and seamlessly implemented, while community-building player interactions are regularly organized, “tailor-made” for each market.

The “blockbuster” Lineage 2M will be the first game to be published by NCV GAMES in 6 markets: Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines, in the second half of 2024. Released exclusively in South Korea in 2019, this MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) is a pioneer in applying collision detection technology, revolutionizing the gaming experience by reconstructing a hyper-realistic virtual world for players. Lineage 2M currently boasts the largest open-world mobile RPG, allowing over 10,000 players to gather and experience the meticulously designed 3D environment.

“With VNGGames’ excellent operations and strong infrastructure in the Southeast Asian market, combined with NCSOFT’s world-leading MMORPG portfolio, we aim to deliver breakthrough experiences to users in the region. We expect that through NCV GAMES, NCSOFT and VNG will grow together, making a significant breakthrough in the global market,” said Kim Taek Jin, Founder and CEO of NCSOFT, at the signing ceremony.

“Regarded as the ‘father’ of online gaming in general and MMORPG in particular, NCSOFT has left an indelible mark on the industry. Recalling my first encounter with their games over two decades ago, I still feel the excitement of participating in what could be considered the world’s first esports event – World Cyber Game in South Korea back in 2002, and subsequently experiencing their 3D masterpiece, Lineage II, in 2006. At that time, we had only published 2D games. Ever since, the team at VNG has cherished the dream of one day bringing this incredible game to Vietnam. Today, we have finally achieved this goal together. With NCSOFT’s rich history in global gaming and VNGGames’ publishing capabilities, we are confident in our success in introducing these Korean blockbusters to Vietnamese and Southeast Asian players,” shared Mr. Le Hong Minh, Founder and CEO of VNG.

NCSOFT is a leading Korean game development and publishing company, renowned for its popular MMORPG titles. Founded in 1997, NCSOFT’s gaming ecosystem currently serves hundreds of millions of users in 60 countries worldwide. VNGGames, on the other hand, is a top game publisher in Vietnam and the region, with a portfolio of over 130 games and a quarterly active user base of 78.7 million in 2023.

MMORPGs are also considered the genre that “started it all” for VNGGames. As early as 2004, Vinagame (the predecessor of VNG) was the first Vietnamese company to successfully collaborate with Kingsoft to publish the blockbuster Vo Lam Truyen Ky in Vietnam. In 2023, VNGGames published the popular MMORPG Kiem The Origin, quickly attracting 37 million K-T-O generation players and accounting for 25% of revenue and downloads in the mobile MMORPG market share in Vietnam during the March-June period of that year. With NCSOFT’s nearly 30 years of experience in developing RPGs and VNGGames’ regional publishing capabilities, the joint venture, NCV GAMES, is expected to contribute to the growth and investment attraction of the Southeast Asian gaming market.

“The Southeast Asian gaming market is highly competitive due to the diverse cultures and lifestyles across countries. Therefore, VNGGames always seeks suitable content for each market and localizes it to reach the widest audience. We are one of the few companies that meet NCSoft’s stringent requirements for game publishing capabilities in Southeast Asia. Additionally, both VNGGames and NCSoft have a long history of publishing MMORPGs, and our collaboration has been seamless in discussing methods and strategies. We are confident that today’s joint venture, NCV GAMES, will create breakthroughs and positively impact the gaming industry in Vietnam and Southeast Asia in the coming years,” shared Mr. Kelly Wong, Deputy CEO of VNG and Director of VNGGames.

The Southeast Asian gaming market has been witnessing robust growth in recent years. According to Mordor Intelligence, the revenue from the gaming industry in Southeast Asia is expected to reach $14.80 billion by the end of 2024. The number of players of online mobile games in the region has grown to approximately 250 million in the previous year. This growth is driven by the popularity of smartphones and the rise of mobile gaming platforms.
