The State Audit Office of Vietnam (SAV) has recently collaborated with the Ministry of Finance to announce the audit of the financial and public asset management of the General Department of Taxation and the General Department of Vietnam Customs for the year 2023.

As per the decision by the State Auditor General, the objective of these audits is to verify the accuracy and reasonableness of financial information, financial statements, and settlement reports of the audited agencies.

The audits of the two agencies will be conducted within 60 days, starting from August 6th (illustrative image)

The audits will also evaluate compliance with laws, as well as the economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the management and use of public finances and assets. Recommendations will be made to the competent authorities to improve any inconsistent policies and mechanisms.

Additionally, the audits aim to promptly detect corruption, waste, and negative acts, clearly identifying the responsibilities of collectives and individuals for handling in accordance with regulations.

The scope of the audit includes budget formulation, allocation, and execution; management and use of budget revenues and expenditures, and public assets; revenue-generating activities and management of unit funds; capital sources and investment costs for project implementation; and compliance with financial and accounting management laws, policies, and regulations, as well as state investment and construction management.

The audit will cover the 2023 financial year and other relevant periods before and after that. As per the decision, the audit will be completed within 60 days, starting from August 6th.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Deputy Auditor General of SAV’s Sector II, will lead the audit team for the General Department of Taxation, while Mr. Hoang Quang Khanh, Head of the Department, SAV’s Sector II, will lead the audit team for the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

According to Mr. Le Dinh Thang, Auditor General of SAV’s Sector II, these two audits aim to verify financial information, financial statements, and settlement reports of the two agencies, which will contribute to the consolidation of the Ministry of Finance’s annual state budget settlement report at the end of the year.

The Ministry of Finance has requested the audited agencies to closely coordinate with the audit teams, clearly assigning specific tasks and responsibilities within their units to ensure timely and truthful provision of complete and objective information to the audit teams, as per regulations.

The leaders of the two agencies emphasized the importance of adhering to the principles and regulations set by the Party, the Politburo, the Secretariat, the State Audit Office, and the Ministry of Finance during the audit process.
