Heavy rainfall and the release of water from the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant have caused the Red River to swell.

VTC News reporters observed that the midstream area of the Red River was inundated, causing significant challenges for residents, especially in terms of transportation.

Ngõ 76 An Dương, one of the two access roads to the midstream area, was flooded with water levels reaching 2-3 meters and a length of 200 meters. Residents had to rely on boats to commute, including taking their children to school and going to work or the market.

This area is home to over 100 households engaged in crop farming, growing bananas, corn, and sweet potatoes, among other produce. With the road cut off by floodwaters, families have to commute by personal boats or seek assistance from those with boats to go to work or conduct business.

Usually, it takes residents only 10 to 15 minutes to transport their agricultural produce to the market. However, for almost a month now, it has been taking them over an hour to prepare. “This area tends to flood during heavy rainfall, so my family bought a motorboat to transport our produce daily to markets and restaurants in the city center,” shared a resident from the midstream area.

Mr. Dang, a trader living in the midstream area for nearly 20 years, shared that since the water level rose, his business has become much more challenging as he has to transport goods by boat.

Mr. Hao, a farmer in the midstream area, expressed his concern about his flooded vegetable garden. “I just hope the water recedes soon so that we can salvage some of the crops. If the flooding persists, there’s little hope of recovering anything,” he said.

For families without private boats, residents have to park their motorbikes and commute by boat. Each person and vehicle crossing the flooded section incurs a fee of 10,000 VND, and bicycle and motorbike parking on the shore costs 10,000 VND.

Many riverside houses were flooded up to their roofs.

Daily living spaces were submerged, forcing many households to evacuate and stay with acquaintances.

According to residents, it will likely take another month for the floodwaters to fully recede.
