Mitsubishi is gearing up for the “Fall 2024” facelift of its Outlander SUV, but the Japanese brand has been rather coy about its promotional strategy. Over two weeks have passed since the first teaser for the new model was released, and the company has only just revealed a second set of teaser images, with no firm launch date in sight.
In addition, a prototype of the updated model was spotted testing on Japan’s Honshu island, providing further clues about the changes we can expect.
This latest batch of images reveals that the Outlander facelift will retain the same exterior design as the fourth-generation model introduced in 2021. The LED headlights feature a revised light signature, but the overall shape of the lighting units remains unchanged.
A strip of black tape on the grille hides a new horizontal chrome bar. Meanwhile, the camouflaged front bumper suggests that this area will also undergo some modifications.
The prototype Outlander facelift was spotted with new 20-inch alloy wheels and a metallic gray paint job. The rest of the exterior remains largely unchanged. No details have been revealed about the rear of the vehicle at this time.
According to Mitsubishi, interior upgrades for the Outlander facelift will include a 12.3-inch central display, likely borrowed from the Nissan X-Trail, replacing the current 8 or 9-inch unit. Other highlights include semi-aniline leather upholstery with ventilated seats, improved overall materials quality, and a premium Yamaha sound system.
In terms of powertrain, the Mitsubishi Outlander facelift is confirmed to feature a new 4×4 plug-in hybrid system. The output is almost certain to exceed the current 248 horsepower, and the all-electric range is also expected to increase.
A larger battery pack is predicted to enable the vehicle to travel around 50 miles without using any fuel, compared to the current model’s 37-mile range. The chassis and suspension have also been tuned to enhance cabin comfort and refinement.
The Mitsubishi Outlander facelift will be unveiled in Europe on October 1, but the Japanese version is expected to debut earlier.
