Accepting the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, and his spouse, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, To Lam, and his spouse, along with the high-ranking delegation of Vietnam, paid a state visit to the People’s Republic of China from August 18-20.
On the morning of August 19, an official welcoming ceremony for General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse, along with the Vietnamese high-level delegation, was solemnly held at the Great Hall of the People, following the highest protocol for a visiting head of state. The ceremony was presided over by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and his spouse.

Present at the welcoming ceremony on the Chinese side were: Thai Ki, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau, Secretary of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee; Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, and Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs; Wang Xiao Hong, State Councilor and Minister of Public Security of China; Liu Jianchao, Head of the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee; Zheng Xin, Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission; Jin Zhuanglong, Minister of Industry and Information Technology; and Wang Wentao, Minister of Commerce, along with numerous other leaders of central ministries, national committees, and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, as well as Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam, Xiong Bo.
The motorcade carrying General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse, along with the Vietnamese high-level delegation, entered the Great Hall of the People. They were warmly welcomed by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and his spouse.
Both sides introduced the officials present at the ceremony.

General Secretary and President Xi Jinping invited General Secretary and President To Lam to ascend the review stand. The military band played the national anthems of Vietnam and China, and a 21-gun salute was fired in honor of the visiting dignitary.

Subsequently, General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and General Secretary and President To Lam walked past the military band, waving to the children holding flags and flowers.
Following this, the two General Secretaries and Presidents, along with their spouses, posed for a group photo in front of the national and party flags of both countries.
Immediately after the welcoming ceremony, General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, leading the Chinese high-level delegation, and General Secretary and President To Lam, leading the Vietnamese high-level delegation, proceeded to hold talks.
